Upcycled this old willow screen that was in the pile of stuff down yonder!
Lychee tree and blueberry saved ! 👊🏻
The left overs I used to protect the other two beds, I also panted a small orange tree and a heap of lavender’s in with the lemon.
It’s going to be so beautiful this bed once it’s established. Contemplating breaking more gardening rules and planting my dwarf apples in the mulberry tree planter….
I am going to grow the Bana Grass in the fabric raised planters! Not all is lost.
So win win, wind be gone 🤣🩷🌿
Time for bed, Missy chucked a sickie today to supervise my wind breaking and we are wagging school tomorrow cause it’s her birthday and we got a girlie day planned with no little kids till cake time 🤣🤫🤣🩷

I can confirm soft fall wood chips make pushing my girl around our little garden much easier, looking forward to getting this area covered. I tell her all about the plants, she gives me a tween eyeroll I pick her something to crunch on and we are both happy 🤣
Went to the nursery to buy and mango tree came home with a lychee instead… then I eyeroll… like what was I thinking 🤔 oh that’s right shade for the blueberries 🫐 now I have to put some sort of wind break for the precious lychee 🤣I tell ya! $145 tree to save my $35 blueberries… my justification they are my girls favourite! Anyone else have conversations like this 🤷🏻‍♀️
I bought some bana grass cuttings to grow as windbreaks and have nurtured them now ready to plant out… only to realise that I in fact do not have a farm or even a decent sized yard to accommodate such vigorous growers, like they grow to 3 metres high in a huge clump within a couple months , so I have to rethink my wind break strategies, bit like the 40 cauliflower’s growing that have taken over my patch 🙄
Was having an off day on Friday so I decided to pull up some spuds, it really is like opening a Christmas present early then was filled with regret, although I was impressed with my haul all I could think of was what I had left them a little longer 🤣
Anyways thankfully a beautiful person gifted me a little mango tree after hearing my plight with the lychee and this basket of goodness was turned into medicine chicken & veg soup for my family, who are currently under the weather. Phew! 😮‍💨 🩷

Yacon, giving these beauties a go. These are the rhizomes that will produce the tubers. The plant grows densely and tall it’s a relative of the sunflower family and produces daisy like small flowers. It takes 7-8 months before you can harvest the tubers. The flavours is sweet, it’s sometimes called the ground apple or Earth pear. I am planting it direct in the earth in a sheltered spot, apparently it’s not too fussy, like all my patches I will be composting in situ and heavily mulching which these plants love. My dirt is full of earth worms too.
You can make a sweet syrup with the juice of these amazing plants, that won’t spike blood sugars, they contain inulin fibre which is an amazing prebiotic and can be eaten raw or cooked. I have planted some Arrowroot rhizomes close by to shelter the Yacon from wind. These are crops that you can continue to grow year round. Let’s see how they go in our climate, they are native to Columbia and Ecuador.
All going to plan I should be able to harvest by my birthday next year 😂… The garden is teaching me more about patience, sheesh I thought I had nailed it, evidently I have not!

Today’s therapy bought to you by a Yellow Lemon Tree and a blue blue sky… a metaphor for deep sadness and coupled with joy and hope. Which seems fitting for my day, which started with tears and ended with the joy of spending the day in the sun chopping up loads of green mulch, layering it in the bed with native soil, straw and then topped with more planting soil, cow poo, biochar,
native soil and then topped with whoflungdung mulch.
Another bonus of over planting is having loads of plants ready to fill new beds. Planting a garden is a symbol of hope.
I am companion planting to feed the lemon tree, protect from pests and of course some more food. Rescued strawberries that someone planted not so well (not mentioning his name 😂), lemongrass I grew from a stalk, comfrey for fertiliser, sweet alyssum to attract bees, a few pansy’s & Salvias too.
Even managed to get a swim in too and a long chat, with lots of laughs with my big sister, who advised me again I need hormone patches 😂….
Off to bed early I have toddler music class to attend in the morning, seriously I tell ya it’s never boring! One minute hormone patches next minute toddler music 😂🙄🤪🩷

Sometimes I get a little reminder of the life I had BR ( before Rett) , I mean I was in my 40”s and I had a lifetime of experiences before me. It’s been like a death for me, losing so much freedom, the journey towards empty nest never ever going to be a reality, seeing old friends living their best lives, travelling, dining out, doing what they please. I’m not saying I’m resentful, I adore my child and being a grand carer, but for the first time in a long time grief has side swiped me. Today Daisy has a neurology appt, I am going through the filing cabinet in my mind to remember what I need to address, which leads me to waiting nearly a year for her wheelchair, it’s still not here and we are dealing with mobility aids that are not great for her or whomever is pushing her…
Anyways dusting myself off not fighting the feelings, had my cry, off loaded to you and now the girls need me.
This is my life, dedicated to these little champs.
And when someone says you need a break… that maybe true momentarily in fact it adds more work to my load , my life is still waiting for me when I return and let’s face it I never relax when I’m not here.
Thanks for listening and if you wonder why I just can’t do trivial s**t this is why, be grateful where you are, there is always someone worse off than you and that is not lost on me either. Gratitude, patience and acceptance, a key learning from this part of my journey.
A few hours and I will be in my garden, my house will remain unvacuumed and I don’t care 😂🩷🙏

Micro Food Forest in the making. 15 fruits and copious amounts of veg, many perennials that will return year after year. Observing the space, the light, the fall of the land, building micro water catchments to slowly disperse water deep into the ground.
Building up the dirt in preparation for summer, dwarf trees, vines and smart planting for shade. Planting what we eat in succession. Making Ollas the most ancient way to irrigate, no clogged drip lines or retic here. Little bit by little bit my vision is taking form. From a neglected yard that was hot, dry and eroding, regenerating it to feed us. 🩷🌿

Life has been so busy this year, like insanely busy!
I have missed vital pieces of information that have reached my inbox…. Days turn into week, weeks turn into months and ta da it’s the end of August, like seriously I am still in January!
One vital email I missed in January was our website hosting for our painting business website changed to over to a new company, because I didn’t action it we lost our whole website and I only just worked it out!
16 years of a web presence gone.
I wondered why my phone was quiet 🙄
Anyway to cut a boring story short, I have to build a whole new website from scratch!
The silver lining is hubby has had a chance to catch up on the jobs we already had booked in, he is in the last stretch of work and has some availability to take on some more painting jobs in the next month.
So if you are in the market for some quality painting hit me up, I’ll arrange it all for you, cause I need to buy more plants 🤣

Also let’s normalise a garden that’s being built, full of unfinished jobs, that’s not picture perfect 🤪 AND if you’re here just for a sticky beak yeah this vid is a little clip of my tiny unfinished plot. But if you are nosy you gotta promise to plant a flower and tell the council to not spray your verge with glyphosate!

Cause today’s wisdom from my patch is this,
Our humble bees 🐝
Bees are the life blood of our gardens, in fact our planet. Without bees we are doomed!
No pollination, no flowers, plus so much of our food depends on pollination!
Our bees are at risk, we must take action to ensure our bee population is strong and healthy. If we all took a small step each to support these vital little insects they would have a much better chance of being healthy and thriving.
Sooo please if you have a little patch or a pot or two plant some flowers!
I also mention glysophate because, w**d spray kills our bees too not just w**ds!
Like are w**ds really that bad? If they are pull them out by hand, it’s great for you and your health to move your body in the sunshine.

Today I thought about giving up the garden project. I am so bloody time poor….. today it felt like another chore, something else that needs nurturing, care and time. I’m pretty unhinged and frayed most of the time 🤪
My windows of quiet so far and few in between I just want to garden, I don’t want to adult when theres no kids home. But alas and damn it I had to adult too in this quiet time grrrr anyway got out there finally at 3.30 and got my head back in the game, made a few decisions to move toward where the garden becomes more self sustainable.
Like all projects in their infancy it’s taking more time than I have to do it, but gardens are like that if you listen it will guide you, gently back to task be it resting or learning patience, somehow it can embrace me and let me know that the hour I had out there was enough.
I felt inspired after my chat with nature, made this delish lemon honey & yogurt baked cheese cake topped with caramelised dates and pistachios. All the good stuff to nurture frayed nervous systems, mostly local ingredients too. Have you ever tasted Geraldton Wax? It’s really Delish!
