Fresh Produce: It’s the topic on most people’s minds when it comes to affordability and eating healthy. To many it means healthy choices, to many it means affordability, but to most it means ensuring that you have a balanced diet that its rich in nutrients and variety.
In today’s world we are all too often now seeing extortionate prices for fresh produce that we would normally have otherwise found affordable - as little as 2 months ago. Taking a walk around the local supermarket it is easy to see that prices of vegetables have begun to skyrocket causing people to resort to desperate measures to ensure that they get value for their hard-earned money.
A big one that we recently became aware of was lettuce. What do we use lettuce for? And what dishes would you be most likely to use it in and why? We use lettuce for many reasons and depending on the variety of lettuce it can give us different texture and flavour, dishes such as ... Sandwiches 🥪, burgers 🍔, salads 🥗, wraps 🌯... - to us those are the most obvious uses. So, what could you use to substitute lettuce that has a similar texture and can be used as a filler and to add the green component to your dish? Well....we believe that we have a solution.....
……….. We bring you…….. Sunflower Microgreens 🌱🌻
That’s right, Sunflowers. This microgreen is a soft yet firm, mild in taste (like lettuce) and juicy microgreen. Unlike Lettuce, it packs a bunch of nutritious attributes that would make that salad sandwich or salad you are making even more beneficial to your body.
Let’s look at the nutritious health benefits of Sunflower: It is a good source of Vitamins A, C, E, K, a range of B vitamins, folate, Iron, manganese, selenium, essential amino acids and it’s a good source of protein. It contains healthy fats such as Omga-3s and Omega 6s, which is great for brain development! A quarter cup of sunflower microgreens contains about 160 calories. That same quarter cup contains about 12-grams of healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These are the good fats Omga-3s and Omega 6, not the unhealthy ones. All these nutrients support your immune system and provide a good source of energy.
So next time you find yourself prepping your shopping list, why not ask us about Sunflower Microgreens! 😋🌱
