So i got a call from the Queen Bee yesterday as the girls were a bit frisky and she was worried that they might be getting ready to swarm. Bees use vibrations from their wings to communicate and also cool the hive. It is bloody hot so I'm pretty sure this is just nature's air-conditioning in action.

Emergency health-check & unexpected harvest tonight after a huge swarm today. Seems that there is no room at the inn so the girls had to move on.... wish we had done this a couple of weeks ago. Learning....

Part 3 - Melbourne cup day. Went to the gym, came home ready to do a split. Open the hive and the girls are cranky! They get into my suit and Charlie Bryce Madgwick watches me run faster than I have in years. Small amount of surgery required to remove sinners and an antihistamine later.... Beeman is back into it.

Took this video before the girls got me.

Hives are looking ok. Lots of activity so fingers crossed the split is OK. Will check in two to the week's.

Part 2 - Fast forward to late October and the signs are clear, the girls want to swarm. There are lots of drones and swarm cells. I wasn't ready to split them so I started to build a plan.

My cousin Emily Jane Griffen was here with her two fantastic honey living kids so I robbed a couple of frames so that we could have a little play with the spinner. A few kilos later and all were happy.

Part 1 - So i haven't posted in a long time, I'll try and catch everyone up. This photo is from September and I had Charlie Bryce Madgwick cousin Katherine Fenton from the UK hanging out with the girls and I.
We found small signs of swarm activity but aside from that, the hive was healthy and strong.

Video number 2. This frame shows the differences between capped honey and brood (bee production cells). Uncapped honey still has too high a water content and would ferment. The bees will can their wings to dry it out.
