Great idea . This is my village in Ireland
Most people in Virginia have probably heard the name “Town Team” at some stage, but many may not know what the Town Team is actually supposed to do.
The Virginia Town Team will hold its Annual General Meeting on 9th June and is currently looking for new people to get involved.
The idea behind Town Teams is actually quite simple. They were created as a way for local communities, businesses, councils and residents to work together to improve and revitalise towns.
Rather than decisions always coming from the top down, the Town Team concept encourages local people to help shape the future of the place where they live.
Town Teams focus on:
• encouraging community participation and local involvement
• identifying opportunities and challenges in the town
• supporting projects and ideas that can improve the local area
• helping towns become more sustainable, attractive and vibrant places to live and work
Across Ireland, Town Teams have been involved in projects ranging from public spaces and local business supports to tourism initiatives, community facilities and town regeneration projects.
At its heart, the idea is really about local people having a voice and working together to make positive things happen in their own communities.
Whether people agree on every idea or not, strong communities usually grow when people are willing to get involved, contribute ideas and give some of their time and experience.
The future of towns like Virginia will not be shaped by one person or one group alone. It will come from lots of people contributing in different ways over time.
