All gratifying things must come to an end, and after 11 wonderful years, Eat Me Chutneys will be closing its doors in January 2024. Mum has reached a time when she would like to take her time. Her journey made wondrous by the people we met along the way - we thank you for your support. The time in the kitchen, with Mum, were like a live theatre for me. At first, I was a witness but soon became a participant. Graceful choreography of Mum’s pinches and fistfuls was better observed than noted.
If you’d like to place a final order with us, our website will continue to serve a cornucopia of chutneys, pickles and tote bags until sold out, so we advise speed. We’ll ship to every corner, hill, valley, apartment, terrace, bungalow and mansion of this isle.
What next? The confluence of Mum’s verbally and informally passed-down recipes, and codified Escoffier ones, which I received as chef-in-training in France, has tweaked my constellation of ideas, in more ways than one. To me, luxury comes from the hands and from their ability to bring flavour, be it on a farm or in a kitchen. Will I emulate Mum, no. A second generation chutney maker, perhaps. A rendezvous with chutneys, likely. It’ll be nice to have you around.
