Pakistan to Play First-Ever FIFA Men’s Tournament at ASEAN Cup 2026

Pakistan’s men’s football team is set to make history by competing in its first-ever FIFA-sanctioned tournament at the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) confirmed the national team will be among 14 countries taking part in the competition during the FIFA international window in September and October. Hosted by Indonesia, the tournament will feature Pakistan alongside regional teams including Malaysia, India, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, marking a major milestone for Pakistani football on the international stage.

The FIFA ASEAN Cup has been created to provide national teams with more meaningful international competition while strengthening football across Asia. Pakistan is one of three invited teams from outside Southeast Asia and will compete in the main tournament, where teams will be divided into groups based on FIFA rankings. PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani welcomed the announcement and thanked FIFA for giving Pakistan this historic opportunity. The tournament is expected to provide valuable international experience for the Green Shirts and help boost the country's growing football ambitions.

Roberto Mancini Returns as Italy Head Coach

Italy are set to bring Roberto Mancini back as head coach, marking his second spell in charge of the national team after a period of uncertainty within the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The 61-year-old will replace Gennaro Gattuso, who stepped down following Italy’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for a third consecutive time. Mancini is widely respected for leading Italy to UEFA Euro 2020 glory in 2021 and is now expected to rebuild the Azzurri as they aim to return to the top of international football.

His appointment follows a dramatic series of events in Italian football. Andrea Pirlo withdrew from the race for the coaching role after criticism over his reported commercial links to a Russian betting company, while football legends Paolo Maldini and Leonardo resigned from their positions at the FIGC after Pirlo's candidacy collapsed. Their departures left the federation searching for an experienced leader capable of restoring stability and direction.

Mancini now faces the challenge of reviving one of football’s most successful national teams after years of disappointing results. With a talented generation of players available and major international competitions on the horizon, Italy will hope his experience and winning mentality can guide the team back to competing for trophies and secure a place at future World Cups.

Zinedine Zidane Confirmed as France Head Coach Until 2030

France has officially appointed football legend Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach on a four-year contract that will run through 2030. Justin Greaves Creates Test History Against Pakistan

West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves produced a record-breaking spell during the first Test against Pakistan in Tarouba, becoming the first bowler in Test cricket history to take wickets in five consecutive maiden overs. The 32-year-old claimed his maiden five-wicket haul with outstanding figures of 5/27, breaking the previous record of four consecutive wicket maidens set by England's Stuart Broad in 2016. Greaves sparked a dramatic collapse after Pakistan were cruising at 244/3, dismissing Shan Masood, Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Abbas in a sensational spell. Pakistan were bowled out for 282, giving West Indies a 29-run first-innings lead before the hosts extended their advantage to 155 runs by the end of day three.

Afghanistan to Host India for Historic T20I Series in Delhi

Afghanistan are set to host India in a three-match T20I series at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2026. The matches are expected to be played on September 13, 15 and 17, marking the first time any international team will officially host India on Indian soil.

Afghanistan have used India as their home venue for several years, previously hosting international matches in Greater Noida, Dehradun and Lucknow. However, this will be the first time they will play a home series against India in the country. The series is scheduled between India's Test tour of Sri Lanka and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

The two teams last met earlier this year when India defeated Afghanistan in a one-off Test and completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODI series. Afghanistan will now look to make history in the T20I series, while India aim to regain momentum after a difficult run in recent white-ball cricket.

The series is expected to provide exciting preparation for both teams ahead of upcoming international tournaments and promises high-quality cricket between two strong Asian rivals.

Pakistan's Football Exports Drop 39% in June

Pakistan's football exports recorded a sharp decline in June 2026, falling nearly 39% compared to the same month last year despite the country's strong global reputation for producing world-class footballs. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), export earnings dropped to $13.238 million from over $21.7 million a year earlier, while exports also fell by 38.54% compared to May 2026. The decline comes even though footballs made in Sialkot continue to be used in major international sporting events.

Despite the weak monthly performance, Pakistan's football exports showed positive growth over the full fiscal year. Exports increased by 11.72% during FY2025–26, reaching $256.7 million. Industry experts believe the June decline may be linked to changing global demand, shipment cycles, and market conditions, while stressing the need for greater innovation, stronger branding, and expansion into new international markets to maintain Pakistan's competitive position.

In an emotional farewell message, Otamendi thanked Argentina for allowing him to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion. He said he was leaving with pride, knowing the team fought until the very last second despite the disappointing result in his final match.

The 38-year-old recently returned to Argentina to join River Plate after a successful 16-year career in Europe, where he represented clubs including Porto, Valencia, Manchester City and Benfica. His retirement marks the end of one of Argentina's most successful international careers.
