Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing some of the best World Cup moments and facts in the lead-up to match day. Kicking things off with one of the great Aussie sporting moments: Australia vs Japan, 2006.
It took 32 years for the Socceroos to qualify for their second-ever World Cup. In their opening match, they were trailing Japan 1-0 going into the 84th minute - until Tim Cahill struck Australia's first-ever World Cup goal. Two more followed in the dying minutes. Final score: 3-1. Australia's first-ever World Cup victory.
