Rohingya Crisis:
Bangladesh Seeks Japan’s Support
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today, 7 September 2026, urged Japan’s Special Envoy for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, Yōhei Sasakawa, to play an active role in ensuring the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of Rohingya refugees to their homeland, Myanmar.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh is ready to support the rehabilitation of Rohingyas in Myanmar after their return and stressed the need for stronger international cooperation to find a sustainable solution to the crisis.
🇯🇵 Japan’s continued humanitarian support is important, but Rohingya repatriation must only happen when conditions are genuinely safe, voluntary and dignified, with their rights, identity and security protected.

Regime touts Nepal aid while obstructing flood relief at home

September 4, 2026

While floodwaters engulf townships across Myanmar and relief routes are blocked by junta checkpoints, the regime has found time to stage a humanitarian gesture abroad.

On Wednesday, regime Social Welfare Minister Than Soe flew to Kathmandu on a Y8 aircraft to donate US$500,000 and 8 tons of beans to flood victims on the Nepal-China border.

Junta media hailed the trip as a compassionate act of “bilateral cooperation,” reporting that Than Soe offered prayers that survivors could swiftly return to normal life.

Back home, however, flood victims in Ayeyarwady, Tanintharyi, Sagaing, Bago, Kachin, Shan, Karen and Mon have received little aid from the regime. In Sagaing, regime checkpoints actively block relief supplies from reaching flood victims. And even as townships in Sagaing, Tanintharyi and Rakhine battle rising waters, the regime continues airstrikes.

Australian Diplomat Visits Rohingya Camps, Highlights Women-Led Community Initiatives

Date 03 September 2026

Mr. Bilal Akbar, First Secretary of the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh, visited the Rohingya refugee camps this week and toured a Women-Led Community Centre.

During the visit, he observed how Rohingya women and men are raising awareness about gender-based violence, developing life skills through non-formal technical training and creating opportunities to strengthen household incomes.

The visit highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives that place Rohingya women at the centre of resilience, dignity and economic opportunity.

The initiative is supported by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with UNFPA and partners working to strengthen community-based support in Cox’s Bazar.
