Young Guns win 6-4 over the Wolverines.
The Queen City Young Guns and Wolverines Hockey Academy treated fans to a wild, back-and-forth offensive showcase that saw the Young Guns emerge victorious with a 6-4 road win. The game exploded into life in the first period with a staggering six goals. The Wolverines struck first when Hudson Moffat buried an early chance, but the Young Guns answered immediately as Louis Park tied the game just 23 seconds later. Hendrix Kraayenbrink and Oliver Fossey then scored for the Wolverines, but Queen City responded with two quick goals of their own from Holt Hesse and Owen Spooner to take a 4-3 lead into the first intermission.
The second period proved decisive, with momentum swinging on special teams. After a penalty shot was awarded against the Wolverines, Bodhi Lesy calmly converted to extend the Young Guns’ lead. Just 31 seconds later, while shorthanded, Keller Wilson scored what would stand as the game-winning goal, giving Queen City a commanding 6-3 advantage. The Wolverines showed fight, with Nolen Blackburn scoring late in the period to cut the deficit to two, but they could not complete the comeback. Lesy added his second of the game on a third-period power play to seal the victory for the visitors.
Despite being outshot 27-30, the Young Guns were ruthlessly efficient. Goaltender Rio Greene backstopped his team to the win, while Holt Hesse and Keller Wilson each contributed a goal and an assist in the victory. For the Wolverines, Oliver Fossey was a bright spot with a goal and an assist, but a string of penalties, including two minors to Fossey himself, proved costly as the Young Guns capitalized on their opportunities to secure the two points.
