Another reason to shop local…

yourself

Ewok and I
just left our house
to go for a stroll

Not far from our front door
in our own driveway
I was shocked
and appalled to see this!

I don’t smoke

It baffled me
where this could have possibly came from
and thought
of the delivery we had
from a popular online retailer

I did not see anyone leave this…

I do not have any proof
of who might have left it…

maybe the wind blew it in

I would like to say
however

If your job is delivering

I appreciate your service 💗

If your job is delivering

I would be ever so grateful
if you please, please, please
dispose of your garbage properly!

I was beside my dog
and saw it first

Ewok was not harmed

In January
Ewok did need to make
an expensive $2800 visit
to the emergency vet
because
he was throwing up profusely
after a walk in a trail

The vet
kept Ewok overnight

gave him medication
similar to gravol

did x-rays and didn’t find anything

We think he had a reaction
to eating a cigarette butt

It was scary!

Thankfully Ewok made a full
somewhat quick recovery

After that incident
every time I see a butt on the ground
I am extremely cautious!

To see one in my own driveway

ugggh

Okay
I know I said
my next post would be positive

rant over lol

I think I will go for a drive
to find some ice cream
to chill 😉

Isaiah and I
do something back and forth everyday
called a ‘Streak’ on Snapchat

A Snapchat streak tracks
how many consecutive days
you and another person
exchange photos

To keep it going
to get the number higher
both people need to send
at least one photo to the other person
within every 24-hour period

Texts and memory photos don’t count

In messenger
on the Snapchat app
beside their profile photo
you will see the number of days
with a flame beside it
and sometimes an hour glass emoji
if your time is getting close to running out

All of that being said
today I sent two…

a selfie sitting down at the table

I went back to my school work

looked down not long after
and saw a tick on my arm

I immediately thought
I have photo evidence
that you were not there earlier lol

Do ticks now know how to fly? 😳

This season
it seems
we have had such an influx of ticks!

We have taken so many ticks
off of Ewok
they love to hide themselves
in his long hair

over the last few months
we have picked off two ticks
on two separate occasions
who were buried in Summer’s hair

multiple ticks off
Gabriel and Mathieu’s back, arms and legs

none off of Isaiah

and none off of me
until today
when this little guy
magically appeared on my sweater

Yes
Ewok does get regular doses of Advantix

and we do regular checks on all of us
including L’amour too of course
who thankfully
has never had a tick

Mathieu claims
they don’t have ticks in Québec

I assured him it was never like this
when I was growing up

I guess the world has changed
in multiple, multiple, multiple ways

keeping an eye out for ticks in 2026
is part of a daily routine
living in Nova Scotia

That’s okay
I wouldn’t trade
the wide open grassy spaces
beautiful forest trails
wonderful abundance of plants
and nature for anything!

I am often asked where I am from

I was raised
in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia

Moved 5 minutes away
to Beaver Bank as an adult

and don’t ever plan on leaving

If you are ‘new’ to the world of ticks

if you get one on you
it doesn’t hurt
when they are crawling
they are trying to attach to you

If you catch it early enough
you can peel it off
without too much trouble
and it ends there

If it has attached to you
you will need tweezers or a tick tool
as they get on there tight

also if it has attached
it is important you go to a walk-in clinic
to grab some preventative medication

When we become aware
of our surroundings
and know how to prepare
know how to handle situations
we can look at ticks
and other ‘scary’ things
and not panic

Remaining calm
in every situation
is one of the most important
life skills to learn!

I know there is a lot of fear around ticks

With this post
I am sharing to hopefully ease your mind

since they are becoming so plentiful
it is inevitable
that one day
you may find one on you
and you need to know
what to do to prevent the danger
and/or what to do to get it off

Don’t be afraid to start over

You started with nothing before
and built it up
to something huge to be proud of

This time
you are starting from scratch
but with experience

Stay strong
knowing you are capable
of overcoming obstacles
to create the life you dream of

A little throwback to 2001,
when I was 18 years old
{I am 42 years old now}

Over the span of twenty years
the farm table,
moved to a farm stand
to building
a 3,000 square foot farm market
to expanding
to an over 8,000 square foot store

I have new priorities,
new visions,
new goals

But I look back at this photo
to remind myself
that anything
~ EVERYTHING ~
is possible
if I continue to believe in myself,
and have gratitude
for all of God’s lessons and blessings

Back home kisses 💕💕💕

I teetered for awhile
before I registered
to go back to school

whether to do it in-person
or choose the online option

It was cheaper to do it online
but the old fashioned me
felt like having a teacher
at the front of the class
instead of self led learning
might be ‘easier’

especially because
I graduated
from Saint Mary’s University in 2005
so it’s been a minute
since I have ‘studied’

Technology has changed a ton

Life circumstances have changed a ton

In addition
to all of the online learning
I have been doing

I have been taught
once again
that I can do hard things

and

having the opportunity
to take a course
that allows

the companionship of my two fur babies

breaks to take dog walks

and the freedom to be home for hugs
when Isaiah, Gabriel and Summer
walk in the door at the end of the day

is such a blessing! 💕💕💕

Good morning friends!

I have a question for you…

Where in Nova Scotia
have you been most wowed
with impecable service
at a restaurant?

💗

Isaiah, Gabriel and Summer
are still
talking about the kindness we received
on Sunday
from our server at the
Cheelin Korean BBQ restaurant

who took the time
when we asked

to teach us how to use chop sticks

how to say thank you in Korean

who gave us a a round of drinks
to celebrate us being first time customers

AND

who gave us beautiful
super fancy Korean popsicles

Yes
the food was absolutely delicious

but truly
it is the exceptional service
that we received
that has left the most lasting impression
for us to want to go back!

We have been to restaurants
where we felt

the server
was annoyed to answer questions

the server
was rushing us

the server
seemed like
they would rather be somewhere else

One time
we were shocked
after we had paid quite a bit of money
for food and drinks at a cafe
to be told
they don’t offer free water
when Gabriel asked for a glass

I don’t post negative reviews

I do
however
highlight and try to lift up
the ones who are doing it right!

The chefs job is essential
the food needs to be
safely prepared and tasty

The server
is who you see

Many times
your experience with your server
is the image that comes to mind
when you think of a place

Thank you again
to the wonderful server
we were blessed to have
at Cheelin Korean BBQ Restaurant
