Just a sweet little throw back to warmer days!

With the cold rolling in, but the to-do list refusing to hibernate… ❄️😂 We might be missing those warm, sunny days on the farm, but let’s be real, the work never actually stops.

While we’re bundling up and pretending we don’t see our breath, the first stages of next season are already creeping in. Plans, prep, plotting… it’s all starting sooner than we want to admit. 🌱😉
And honestly? We kind of love it. Because every frosty morning means we’re one step closer to sunshine, sprouts, and another season of Growing Opportunities magic.

👉 Follow along as we kick off the first steps toward next season! We've been hosting seed saving workshops, and we all know seeds mean sprouts soon enough!

🥕Workshop Alert!🥕

GOs seed saving guru, Jen Cody, will be hosting a carrot workshop at the farm! 🧡

Join us as we harvest our Vampire seed carrots.🧛🏻‍♀️🥕 Following, Jen will demonstrate carrot seed selection and storage techniques.

This event is open to the community, free of charge. Please dress for the weather as this is an outdoor event. Parking is by the white tent.

When: Saturday, November 8, 2025, 11:30am-2:00pm
Where: Westwood Farm, 2090 Skaha Drive, Nanaimo

We will have a campfire going and hot beverages to keep everyone cozy. 🔥☕️

Feathers, fur, and a whole lot of personality 🐓🐑 that’s how we like it here at Growing Opportunities! The best perk of a community-oriented space is the constant flow of laughter, muddy boots, and unexpected friendships (sometimes with feathers involved). 💚

Farm Gate Crate Week 12 of 16!
This week’s harvest is full of color and flavor: tender swiss chard, cherry tomatoes, beans, fresh yaya carrots, green pepper, hearty broccoli, and crunchy cucumber. We’ve also added parsley, jalapeños, and a touch of late-summer sweetness with plums, strawberries, or pears. 🍐🍓🌿

We were thrilled to welcome A Taste of Learning back to the farm for their first fall visit! 🌻
We had an action-packed morning! cutting the heads off the sunflowers they planted in the spring so we can save the seed.

The group even stayed late to help pack our CSA boxes like pros 😎 We can’t wait to have you back next week!

Farm Gate Crate week 11 of 16 is bursting with late-summer flavors! 🌱 This week’s harvest brings cherry tomatoes, crisp cabbage, sweet bell peppers, spicy Hungarian hot wax peppers, leeks, lemon cucumbers, fresh basil, onions, garlic, and a sweet mix of Westwood Farm apples and pears. 🍐🍎

We also have our plentiful product table to pick up extra produce from the farm this week!
