We started Peasant's Pantry in 2011/2012 with a home-based processing facility to make specialty meats/charcuterie using local meat and no fillers, focusing on traditional recipes and high quality. We sold our products at farmers' markets, but by spring of 2014 i

t became clear that we needed more space and staff to keep up with our growing business. We purchased and renovated the former location of The Highwayman Restaurant, which had been vacant on Highway 12 in New Ross for some time. The vision was to relocate and expand our business as a traditional deli: continuing to practice nose-to-tail butchery to produce our specialty meats, but also to offer butcher cuts and provide a menu for eat-in and take-out, made from scratch in-house with an emphasis on local ingredients. We opened in time for Canada Day weekend 2014 and it has been exciting as the vision became a reality.

After over a decade in New Ross, it is time for our business to grow again. Our New Ross location is now permanently closed, and we wish the new property owners all the best. Our sincerest thanks to the loyal customers from New Ross, the South Shore, the Valley, and HRM, who travelled to see us regularly. We are honoured that so many of you suggested YOUR town be our next town.
We are excited to announce that our next location will be in Berwick, opening this winter. We will share more details, links to the new restaurant website and new social media accounts, in the coming weeks. While we know no ONE location is convenient for everyone, we hope you will join us on this new adventure…there will be pizza.
