KEDC was created in 2014 by the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Nations to capitalize on a strong desire within their community to grow economic opportunities. The Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw are a strong people with a rich history and a bright future who are creating, operating and supporting businesses that are profitable, environmentally sustainable and culturally significant. Grown on the remote west coast, in the pristine waters and traditional territory of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw First Nation, k’awat’si Shellfish introduces the k’awat’si Scallop and the GwiGwi Oyster. These are the Cold Water Treasures of British Columbia’s south central coast and Great Bear Rainforest region. Our growing site is known to the local Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw people for its abundance of seafood resources. Continuing our Indigenous seafood tradition, our shellfish are cultured in deep-water trays and are hand-harvested by a new generation of Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw. We are committed to producing shellfish that are of the highest quality and the premium choice for sustainable seafood.
