I know many of you have messaged us asking us for an update. There's not much to update. It's been 8 months since I walked out, no stormed out of a meeting and made the difficult decision to step away from a dream we had been working toward for many years.

We've spent a lot of time thinking about it since then and we don't want to give up on all the work that has already been completed. The money spent too. We’re exploring the idea of creating a destination country store with a beautiful patio, showcasing great local products and perhaps serving a selection of Ontario craft beverages from other local producers instead of making our own. This way we could build a much smaller building, hopefully saving on development charges.

Sometimes the original dream doesn't work out but that doesn't mean a better one isn't waiting around the corner. We still have our apple orchard and over 4,000 Christmas trees.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to message us and thank you for all the support. We'll do better to keep you posted.

Happy Canadian Ag Day!!
Today we celebrate the farmers who keep us all fed!! Thank you farmers!!!

We’re proud to support local farmers every day, even though the township of Scugog didn't support us.
Imagine all the local farmers we could have supported if this town didn't make it so hard.

I'm wondering if this is a real person. I would love to talk to them about their experience with the Township of Scugog and how much Scugog supports small farm businesses. 🤔

Support, really? This is an interesting word they use. Yes, approvals may be possible, if you’re ready to spend a million dollars getting environmental studies, reports, and all the red tape requirements to get there. They say one thing but you know actions speak louder then words.

This has NOT been our reality in Scugog.

As a small business, Myrtle Market & Cidery received little support from the Township of Scugog. What we experienced instead was red tape, shifting goalposts, and a process so difficult that we are now abandoning our application entirely.

If this is what “supporting small business and investment attraction” looks like on the ground, it’s no surprise entrepreneurs walk away.

Thank you Honourable Lisa Thompson, Minister of Rural Affairs, and her team for meeting with as we promote and advocate our work through Scugog Business Program to support our agri businesses, to attract and retain new investment to choose to do business.

Sad times. Removing the wrap off our truck. Never expected this would be how our 2026 would be starting. 😭
