Cameroon Military Spokesperson Reaffirms Armyโ€™s Neutrality During Election Period

The Spokesperson of the Cameroonian Armed Forces, Navy Captain Atonfack Cyrille Ngeumo, has reiterated the armyโ€™s commitment to political neutrality amid heightened tensions following the October 12, 2025 presidential election.

In a recent editorial, Captain Atonfack wrote that the militaryโ€™s reputation as โ€œthe Great Muteโ€ comes from its refusal to take sides in political affairs, emphasizing that the army stands solely โ€œin support of the Constitution, our fundamental law, which irrevocably enshrines the sovereignty of the People.โ€

He further urged service members to โ€œignore siren calls, incitements and provocationsโ€ during this period of political uncertainty, stressing that the soldierโ€™s mission remains the protection of national integrity, people, and property at all times.

His comments come as debates intensify over the role of state institutions in safeguarding peace and respecting the will of the people following Cameroonโ€™s contentious elections.

2025 Election: Uncomfortable Truths That Must Be Spoken to Anglophones

Before I get into this short article, I must issue a disclaimer. I am writing in my capacity as an independent, impartial journalist whose interest is in peace and justice. I have no interests with any political party/candidate and my analysis is simply meant to help us โ€“ especially Anglophones who are disproportionately suffering from the excesses of the regime and so-called Amba Boys โ€“ to carefully weigh our options. This article is in the defense of and interest of Anglophones.
As we all await the election results with baited breath, some cold and hard facts stare us in the face:
โ€ข We failed (especially as Anglophones) to make clear our demands to Tchiroma who has a lot of popular national support. We rolled out the red carpet to Tchiroma rather hastily and by so doing, we sent a message to other politicians and the rest of the country that we are weak, unfocused and can easily be manipulated.

โ€ข A prudent approach would have been to have a number of leaders from the NW and SW, meet with Tchiroma first upon his arrival in Bamenda and express to him categorically that his words during his tenure as communications minister and defending the regime, were hurtful to us as a community and exacerbated the conflict. These leaders should have tabled a clear number of demands to Tchiroma and said that regardless of his hurtful remarks, we forgive him and have moved beyond the past. They would have proceeded to state that Anglophonesโ€™ demands are nothing short of (a two-state federation, ten-state federation etc), but we failed to articulate any such demands and came across as unserious and easily played. Making such clear demands to Tchiroma (preferably in the presence of the media) would have shown leadership, resolve, principle and unwavering determination for our rights.

โ€ข There is common consensus among all Cameroonians that change should come to the country first and then all other issues can be sorted out later. However, there is absolutely no guarantee that Tchiroma will behave any different from the current powers that be, if he takes office. For Anglophones to have failed to make clear what we want (from Tchiroma during his campaign), was not a wise political move.

โ€ข A lot of Cameroonians are referring to Tchiroma as โ€œthe good devilโ€ but the thing with โ€œdevilsโ€ is that none is ever good and it is not in the character of โ€œdevilsโ€ to repent. That said, Tchiroma is a politician and we CANNOT judge his intentions or his heart, but what we can analyze are the patterns in his political movements. How did Tchiromaโ€™s political career start? The pattern has been an inconsistent one whereby he aligns himself with his personal interests. This is commonsense in politics, but this should be a red flag to Anglophones especially. What makes Anglophones think that Tchiroma will prioritize them or care to solve their crisis if he becomes landlord at Etoudi?

โ€ข Once Tchiroma is in office, there is absolutely nothing binding him or obliging him to cater to Anglophone problems despite the massive show of support he garnered from the Anglophone community. Are we ready to accept the possibility that he may not deliver on any promises to Anglophones and what do we do in that scenario?
This is not a condemnation of Tchiroma, but rather an indictment of Anglophones. Any critical thinker would look at the hasty embrace of Tchiroma by Anglophones and see a people who donโ€™t seem to know what they want, or at least cannot clearly and firmly stand by it. In over 8 years of conflict Anglophones seem to have learned little about the importance of strategy, unity, and negotiation. No one else feels the pain living through weeks and months of lockdowns, mass arrests and incarcerations and almost daily killings from soldiers and Amba Boys, so it was an opportunity for Anglophones to clearly state what they want from Tchiroma, rather than simply joining the fray in a directionless manner.
Politics is a game of interests and if Anglophones fail to make a case for their own interests, no one will do it for them. People will simply use and dump Anglophones. There is precedent to this. We saw the incumbent president, Paul Biya in his haydays come to Bamenda with lofty promises. He even launched his CPDM party in Bamenda all with promises of โ€œrigour and moralizationโ€ but in nearly a decade of conflict in the NW and SW, he has not bothered to set foot in the embattled regions even once! He used Bamenda to launch his presidency literally, claiming that โ€œBamenda is my second homeโ€, but where is Bamenda in his agenda today?
In every political season, Anglophones are quick to jump onto new bandwagons without first defining what truly serves their collective interests. When Kamto was popular, Anglophones simply swayed in that direction and when it was Tchiroma, they followed suit โ€“ like a paper tossed around by the wind. The painful truth is that no outsider will prioritize the Anglophone cause if Anglophones themselves do not present a united front and a clear set of demands which they want met. Sympathy alone will not bring justice or peace to the NW and SW. We must move beyond emotional politics and begin to engage with power and politicians from a position of clarity, discipline, and vision. Only then can lasting change emerge.
It is not too late to make our case, though. Right now, Anglophone leaders can still defend the interests of Anglophones by organizing meetings with Tchiroma early enough if he wins and in those meetings, table Anglophones' demands. Ordinary Anglophone citizens also need to use social media to amplify their interests and tag Tchiromaโ€™s party and his followers. But that window is closing fast and if we fail to use to seize the moment and strike the iron while it is still hot, then I am sorry to say this, but this election cycle painted us in a very poor light. And if things don't work out for Tchiroma, Anglophones will be the laughing stock of the country.

Issa Tchiroma reacts to the results from the North West & South West Regions. He also sends a very brutal message to Paul Biya ๐Ÿฅถโšก๏ธ

His words ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ
โ€œMy dear fellow countrymen,
Cameroonians,

On October 12th, you spoke loud and clear.
You stood up with dignity and courage. You went out to vote, despite threats, intimidation, and pressure.
You chose change, you chose an alternative, you chose transition.

But since that day, shameful and repeated maneuvers have multiplied in an attempt to steal the voice of the people.

Ballot boxes have disappeared, as admitted by an ELECAM official in Makari.

Impossible results have emerged in the Northwest and Southwest, where massive war-related abstention has somehow been magically transformed into 100% support for the ruling regime, in regions where rejection of that regime is strongest.

How can people who have suffered and fought against a system at the cost of their lives suddenly reward it at the cost of their votes?
For that to happen, the conscience of an entire population would have to be anesthetized.
It is an insult to the intelligence of the people to claim they voted more for the RDPC than there are actual residents in those regions.

Weโ€™ve seen torn PVs, replaced and inserted in the middle of documents to invent numbers that exist nowhere else, numbers different from those handed to party representatives present at the polling stations.

Observers chased out.
Party representatives denied access.
Complicit judges turning a blind eye.

My dear compatriots,
this is no longer just an election.
It is an organized operation against the will of the people.

Mr. President of the Constitutional Council,

Honorable Members, Ladies and Gentlemen,

The future of this Nation lies in your hands.
You have sworn to protect the Constitution and uphold the law.
Today, you stand before history.

You can either validate the truth of the ballot box and give Cameroon the peaceful change it demands or endorse fraud and plunge our nation into uncertainty.

Do not say you didnโ€™t see, the evidence is everywhere.
The people voted overwhelmingly for change, for Tchiroma.
You know it.
So weigh carefully the consequences of the decision you are about to make.

I solemnly urge you:
Stand on the side of justice.
Stand on the side of truth.
Stand with the people.
Your allegiance must be to the Nation, not to a few individuals.

To President Paul Biya,

You have ruled this country for 43 years.
History is watching you.
You still have one last chance, the chance to leave through the big door, as a statesman who respected the will of his people.

Do not end your legacy with such blatant fraud.
Do not let your name go down in history as the man who cheated until the very end.
You have often called yourself a beggar for peace, then leave power with honor, before power leaves you.

I extend to you a brotherly hand. Take it.

To our neighbors and international partners

Nigeria, Chad, the African Union, the European Union, the United Nations, France, the United States, and all friends of Cameroon:

Do not remain silent.
Your silence encourages dictatorship.
Your voice can protect peace.
Speak up, tell the truth, and act so that the will of the Cameroonian people is respected.

My dear fellow countrymen,

I say this with all my heart and strength:
Your voice will not be stolen.

This is not my victory, it is yours.
It is not my triumph, it is that of the Cameroonian people.

The regime seeks to intimidate you, but it is they who should tremble.
Because this time, the people have decided, and the people are ready to defend their victory.

Do not yield to provocation. Stay calm.
But remember, your right to claim your victory is universal and undeniable.
Defend your vote, because the only result we recognize is the true result from the ballot boxes.

Cameroon stands at a crossroads.
Either we accept lies once more,
or we take control of our destiny.

I renew my promise to you:
I will not betray your trust.
I stand firm, determined to defend your victory won through sweat, tears, and sacrifice.

The people have had enough.
The people no longer accept deceit.

The people have won. The people must celebrate their victory.
Together, we will write a new page in our nationโ€™s history.

Long live the sovereign people!
Long live a free, united, and reconciled Cameroon! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM THE FRONT FOR THE NATIONAL SALVATION OF CAMEROON (FSNC)

The Front pour le Salut National du Cameroon (FSNC) has become aware, with deep indignation, of serious and false accusations spread on social networks by an individual responding to the name of Bruno Francฬงois Bidjang against Mr. OUAISSOU Issa, Regional Coordinator of the FSNC for the Littoral Region, and close collaborator of the Hon. Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

These publications, relayed by some media outlets without any prior verification, falsely accuse Mr. OUAISSOU Issa of financing terrorism, sedition, rebellion and violation of security in the state of Cameroon.
The FSNC wishes to formally deny these baseless allegations, which are pure and simple defamation and whose sole aim is to tarnish the reputation of a dedicated, loyal and law-abiding militant of the Republic.

The FSNC expresses its full confidence in the Cameroonian justice system and announces that legal proceedings will be brought against both the author of these defamatory statements and against any media or individual who contributed to their dissemination, in accordance with the laws in force on cybercrime and public defamation.

The FSNC reminds the public that spreading of fake information harms social peace and national cohesion, values to which the party remains firmly adhere to under the leadership of its National President, Hon. Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
