Sharp decline in olive oil market activity during May
The most cautious forecasts regarding the olive oil market in May have been confirmed. According to provisional data from the Agency for Food Information and Control (AICA), under Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, sales for the month reached just over 73,600 tonnes (excluding imports), marking the lowest level of activity so far this campaign and even below the figures recorded in the 2024/25 season.
One of the key factors behind this slowdown is the entry of significant volumes of imported olive oil, mainly from Tunisia and Morocco. Part of these shipments had been held at ports and have gradually been released into the domestic market, a process that is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
At the same time, retail distribution strategies are not helping to support demand. Major purchasing groups are operating with very tight inventory levels, adjusting stock closely to already weak consumer demand at shelf level.

Cumulative production: 1,297,833 tonnes
