Stoneywood Memories: The team who started it all 💚

There could be no better way to finish our memories series than by returning to where the Stoneywood story began.

These photographs were taken during a team-building day at Pittodrie and show our original “Day One” team—the colleagues who came together ahead of opening M&S Stoneywood in December 2016.

Before the first customers walked through our doors, this was the team preparing, learning and building the foundations of what Stoneywood would become.

Over the years, many more wonderful colleagues joined our story, but these photographs capture the people who were there at the very beginning—and the team spirit that remained at the heart of our store for almost ten years.

Stoneywood Memories: Celebrating our colleagues 💚

Throughout the history of M&S Stoneywood, there have been so many colleague milestones worth celebrating.

From welcoming new starters and recognising long service to promotions, awards, birthdays, retirements and other special moments, we’ve been proud to share many important occasions together.

Over almost ten years, colleagues have learned new skills, taken on new roles, achieved personal goals and supported one another through both the everyday moments and the bigger milestones in life.

These photographs capture just some of the celebrations, achievements and wonderful colleagues who have been part of our story. While we couldn’t possibly include everyone or every special moment, we want to thank every past and present colleague for everything they brought to Stoneywood.

As we prepare for our final day tomorrow, we’re incredibly proud of our team, the friendships formed and everything we’ve achieved together. 💚

Stoneywood Memories: Supporting charities and our community 💚💙💛🩷

Throughout the history of M&S Stoneywood, our colleagues proudly supported many wonderful charities and community organisations.

From walking for the Team Jak Foundation and cycling in support of Parkinson’s to fundraising for Breast Cancer Now, taking on challenges for Alzheimer Scotland, supporting YoungMinds and volunteering with Archway, our colleagues were always ready to get involved.

One particularly proud moment was raising £700 for the Team Jak Foundation and later being recognised as its Corporate Fundraising Team of the Year in 2019. 🏆

Whether we were walking, cycling, baking, gardening, volunteering, collecting or dressing up, every event was made possible by the enthusiasm of our colleagues and the incredible generosity of our customers.

Thank you to everyone who donated, participated or cheered us on over the years. Together, you helped us make a difference. 💚

Stoneywood Memories: Through changing times 💚

The COVID-19 pandemic became one of the most challenging and unforgettable chapters in the history of M&S Stoneywood.

Almost overnight, familiar routines changed. New safety measures were introduced, face coverings became part of our everyday uniform and colleagues adapted to very different ways of working while continuing to serve our community.

As the months and seasons passed, our team continued to mark familiar occasions—from Easter and Mother’s Day to Halloween and Christmas—although everything looked a little different behind our masks.

Throughout it all, our colleagues worked incredibly hard to support one another and ensure customers could continue to access the food and essentials they needed.

We were incredibly grateful for the patience, kindness and understanding shown by our customers. Even the smallest gestures and words of thanks meant so much to our colleagues during that time.

These photographs capture just a few moments from a period none of us will forget—with Percy helping to keep everyone’s spirits up along the way! 🐷💚

Stoneywood Memories: Supporting Macmillan 💚

Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support created some very special—and very memorable—moments in the history of M&S Stoneywood.

One of our biggest weekends took place in September 2017, when colleagues dressed as superheroes, princesses and villains for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Characters from Love Rara joined us in store, while some very brave colleagues took on Brave the Shave and a sponsored waxing challenge!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our customers and colleagues, that year’s Coffee Morning activities raised an amazing £4,195.49 for Macmillan. ☕🍰

Across three of the fundraising totals pictured, M&S Stoneywood raised an incredible combined £7,162.45:

From Coffee Mornings and Raise a Mug to collections, cycling challenges, dressing up and daring personal challenges, our colleagues always found creative ways to get involved. Their enthusiasm—and the fantastic support of our customers—helped Stoneywood become one of the top Macmillan fundraising stores in our region.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who baked, donated, dressed up, participated or supported us. You made every moment matter. 💚

Stoneywood Memories: Where it all began 💚

M&S Stoneywood was officially opened on the 12th December 2016 by Store Manager Andrew Christie.

From the finishing touches being made and the signs going up to welcoming our first customers through the doors, these photographs capture some very special moments from the beginning of our store’s story.

Since that day, so many colleagues and customers have passed through our doors and become part of Stoneywood’s history.

Celebrating the story of M&S Stoneywood 💚

As we approach our final day of trading on 15 August, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the special memories from almost ten years of M&S Stoneywood.

From opening our doors in December 2016 to supporting local charities, celebrating memorable occasions and sharing countless moments with our wonderful colleagues and customers, there is so much to look back on with pride.
