The Buffalo Farm is Scotlands largest herd of Water Buffalo, the buffalo roam the hills at Clentrie farm Auchtertool along with an expanding flock of Juicy Jacob sheep and herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. The business was set up in the spring of 2005 with the objective of producing superior quality beef to market direct to the public both through local door to door sales and on a wider scale through

farmers markets. A herd of Aberdeen Angus was established to produce primarily for local customers however opportunities to expand upon this were limited as there are already a number of producers supplying the farmers markets around Scotland. On a larger scale we have set up a herd of water buffalo, a unique product which will give us the opportunity to sell through the farmers markets. The attractions to the water buffalo are countless, the produce a very healthy meat that is lower in cholesterol, higher in mineral content and less than half the total fat content of conventional lean beef and in the words of Chef Nick Nairn they taste “pretty dam fantastic”. Perhaps the reason for their excellent flavour is they are the same animals they were thousands of years ago as they have not been subject to many of the modern intensive farming practices. We have also recently introduced a flock of Jacob sheep which will provide the opportunity to sell Juicy Jacob Lamb

GOODBYE ISLAY! ❤️🐑

After 10 weeks with us, today we sadly say goodbye to the wonderful Islay — but not before we gave her one final mission… shearing our Valais Blacknose sheep! 😂

And what a job she did! They’re looking rather fabulous after their haircuts. ✂️🐑

We’ve been absolutely blessed to have Islay as part of the Buffalo Farm event team over the last 10 weeks. She has been a complete breath of fresh air — hardworking, kind, always smiling and, most importantly, someone who genuinely cares so much about both the animals and the people around her.

She’s thrown herself into farm life and everything we’ve asked of her, and she’ll be very much missed by all of us — two-legged and four-legged! ❤️

Thank you for everything, Islay. It’s been an absolute pleasure having you as part of our slightly mad Buffalo Farm family.

We wish you all the very best as you head back for your second year at Uni! You are going to be an amazing farmer one day! ❤️🐐🐑🐃

CALLING ALL FIFE SCHOOLS & COMMUNITY GROUPS! 🎃🌾

We’re launching The Buffalo Farm SCARECROW COMPETITION!

And we want your pupils, classes, clubs and community groups to get those creative ideas flowing…

Your challenge is simple:

BUILD A SCARECROW!

Make it funny, fabulous, spooky, spectacular or completely bonkers 😂 — as long as it can be securely fixed to one of our posts and is ready to take its place in our scarecrow field by 9th October.

🌾 We can even provide the straw!

And here’s the best bit…

Every school class or community group that creates a scarecrow we can display in our field will receive up to 35 FREE TICKETS to our Pumpkins, Pygmies & Piggies event, starting 10th October! 🎃🐐🐷

Good morning! We’ve been a little quiet while we tidied up and returned to normal after our busy summer events—but now we’re ready to get going again!

First stop… Balgove Larder Night Market in St Andrews TONIGHT! We’ll be there from 5pm with our creamy Buffalo Mozzarella, delicious Buffalloumi and, of course, our irresistible buffalo milkshakes. If you’re heading along, please come and say hello!
