Since when does anyone have to pay for their toy prize to work and function properly, when you pay £3 to begin with just for one go on the Hammer Game at the Fun Fair at Rugbys Xmas Light Switch on. Paid £3 for a go on the Hammer game at the fair today, the lady tending the game watched the child play and win and then proceeded to show and tell the child what he could pick to have as his prize.
The child picked out a styrofoam glider that's supposed to light up all around it when switched on.
The family barely walked away from the stand trying to turn his toy on when they realised it wouldn't work. They turned back to the stand and explained to the lady tendor that the toy prize would not work and asked if they could just simply exchange it for one that did work.
WELL, the lady refused to exchange it and continued to then say if they wanted one that worked, they'd have to pay, YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT.....PAY £4.00 EXTRA ontop of the £3 already paid to play and win the game.
Absolutely disgusting. I get the fair prices how high and you do go knowing you could be spending a fair amount even more so with children wanting to go on the rides etc. But to charge £3 for ONE go at the game to begin with and then charging extra ontop to actually claim a working prize you have to pay £7 at least.
So this is how the council are drawing the people into town for these events. Cancels the fireworks display, barely any entertainment on the main stage and a ripoff FunFair!
It's sad, as it's these events that are suppose to help draw more people into the town centre that then help local businesses and all the charity stalls. I feel there's seen a drop in the amount of people who attended today's Xmas Light Switch on. Unfortunately I cannot see it getting better in the following years and will probably get to a point where the council will just cut back more and more each year where it'll be gone altogether.
