Strength and depth in cattle and buyers
Trade topped today at the top price so far in 2026 as the champion heifer from Mark Smith, Winterburn was knocked down to Judge Freddie Blezard, Ribchester at £3720. Sired by Denovo Lattitude and fresh since 3rd May while already at 34kg this heifer was widely admired for her robust dairy frame and great back door with tremendous udder width and a well attached udder.
With three heifers today exceeding the 3k barrier it was a potential 14th generation VG or EX bred Aireburn heifer of Brian and Judith Moorhouse from the Helena family descending from the famous USA family at Ja-Bob Holsteins who made £3550. This black silky desirably uddered correct heifer was 3rd in the pre sale judging and heads to a new home with the Fort, Silmoor herd at. silsden at £3550.
Percy and Janet Bolland from Airton continue to disperse and after an interlude for lambing were back with a fortnight calved 30kg Denovo Raffa daughter and this correct youthful balanced heifer went on to sell at £3050.
The days reserve champion was one of six from Margaret Goldie at Danby Wiske - Wiskemanor Hullaballo Aster a 30kg two weeks fresh older heifer with extreme size but plenty of frame and a good correct udder and feet and legs to match, she sold for £2550. With six buyers of the nine forward more numbers are sought for future sales with buyers seeking stock.
