Flippin heck 🥞 it’s Pancake Day… and we’re batter prepared than ever. (sorry 🤣)

Before you have a floury meltdown in aisle “cupboard of doom,” pop into the village shop.

We’ve got the holy trinity of pancake perfection: eggs that didn’t travel further than you did this week, milk so fresh it still thinks it’s Monday, and flour ready to p**f dramatically into the air the second you open it.

Sweet tooth? Grab lemon and sugar (the classic), chocolate spread for the “just one more” crowd, and honey that comes from literally over the road.

Support your village shop, save yourself a last minute dash to the big supermarket, and let’s be honest… the only thing that should be flat today is the pancake, not your enthusiasm.

Just a gentle reminder, as most of our volunteers will be partying in The New Inn tonight, we will be closing at midday in order for preparations to begin 😁
And as most volunteers will be recovering from said party in the morning, we will be closed tomorrow 😉

Well, tonight on BBC1 at 8pm you can actually watch them being made in The Original Biscuits Bakers factory! Now isn’t that a Christmas treat for Christmas Eve, Eve 🎅🎄

🎄🍫 Ode to the Village Shop Chocolate Shelf 🍫🎄
Behold the till-side altar, stacked high with cheer,
Where diets come to perish this time of year.
Cadbury’s Santa winks, says “Go on, be bold,”
While Terry’s Orange waits, smug, dimpled, and gold.
Malteser Reindeer stare with a chocolatey grin,
Judging your “just browsing” as you reach back in.
Shortbread stands proper, all tartan and proud,
Next to mint flutes whispering, “Snap me—do it—loud.”
There’s brandy truffles plotting a very soft landing,
Right into your basket (resistance? abandoned).
Behind them the Guinness looks on with respect:
It knows what December does to self-control next.
You came in for milk. Maybe bread. Maybe both.
You leave with three bags and a festive new oath:
“I’ll share these,” you mutter, a lie tried and tested,
As the village shop smiles—another soul bested.
🎅🍬

Festive Chaos Frozen Solid 🎄🍨
Legend has it that the mince pie and Christmas cake ice cream was created one cold December night when a tub of vanilla ice cream was left unattended near the “bits bowl.” You know the one. The bowl that holds everything—crumbs of Christmas cake, rogue raisins, suspicious peel, and at least one nut no one remembers inviting.
Science says this was an accident. Christmas says it was destiny.
One minute, the ice cream was minding its own business. The next, it was wearing a festive jumper made of brandy-soaked fruit and mince pie rubble.
Sprinkles? No.
This is seasonal debris.
Texture? “Joyfully chaotic.” Calories? We don’t discuss calories between 1st–25th December.
Every scoop contains:
• A hint of mixed spice
• A whisper of brandy
• The emotional baggage of three generations of Christmas traditions…
Is it dessert? Is it leftovers? Is it a cry for help after too much baking? Yes.
Serve with extra mince pie on top, because at Christmas the rule is simple: if it fits in a bowl, it belongs together.
🎅❄️ 10/10 would accidentally invent again.
Well done to Swirls for making our Christmas dreams come true…get yours now!
