What Is Biological Psychology?
Biological psychology (also known as biopsychology, physiological psychology, or behavioura neuroscience) is the scientific study of how the brain and body influence bbehaviourthoughts, and emotions.
It looks at how biological processes β like brain activity, hormones, nerves, and genes β shape the way we think, feel, and act.
So, instead of only studying the mind in isolation, biological psychology studies how the mind works through the brain and body.

βοΈ Key Idea
Everything you do β from feeling happy or scared, to remembering a song, or even falling in love β has a biological basis in your brain and body.
For example:
When youβre scared, your amygdala (a small part of your brain) becomes active, and your body releases adrenaline to prepare you to run or fight.
When you fall in love, your brain releases dopamine (pleasure), oxytocin (bonding), and serotonin (mood control).
So, your emotions and actions come from biological signals happening inside you.

𧩠Main Areas of Biological Psychology
Letβs break down the main areas one by one π
1. The Brain
The brain is the control centre of the body. Different parts handle different functions:
Frontal lobe: Decision-making, planning, reasoning, and self-control
Parietal lobe: Sensation, movement, and spatial awareness
Temporal lobe: Hearing, memory, and emotion
Occipital lobe: Vision
Amygdala: Fear and emotion
Hippocampus: Memory and learning
Biological psychologists study how damage or chemical changes in these areas affect behaviour.
π Example: If the hippocampus is damaged, a person might not form new memories.

2. The Nervous System
This is the bodyβs communication network β made up of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
It carries electrical signals that tell your body how to move, think, or react.
Two main parts:
Central Nervous System (CNS): The brain and spinal cord β they process and interpret information.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS):
