My mother-in-law insisted on sitting between me and her son at our wedding — what she didn’t expect was how easily I agreed.
When I got engaged to Ethan, I knew I wasn’t just marrying him — I was stepping into his tight bond with his mom, Patricia. From the start, she tried to take over everything about the wedding. She had opinions about my dress, the flowers, even the menu. But nothing could’ve prepared me for what she did on the actual day.
There we were, Ethan and I, sitting at the main table, when Patricia — dressed head to toe in a white bridal-style gown, naturally — pulled up a chair and squeezed herself right between us.
“There we go!” she said, dropping into the seat with a pleased smile. “Now I can sit next to my son. I wouldn’t want to miss a second of his big day.”
I stared at her, completely thrown off. “Patricia, this is the bride and groom’s table. We’re supposed to sit together.”
She waved her hand like it was nothing. “I’ll always be the most important woman in his life. You should learn to accept that.”
I turned to Ethan, waiting for him to say something, anything. He just gave a small shrug. “It’s okay, babe. It’s just a chair.”
Just. A. Chair.
I felt the anger rise fast… but then something shifted. Instead of reacting, I took a breath. And suddenly, I saw an opportunity.
“You know what, Patricia?” I said, forcing a polite smile. “You’re right. Let’s do it your way.”
Then I stepped aside, pulled out my phone, and made a quick, quiet call.
A perfect idea had just crossed my mind… and I couldn’t wait to see it play out. 👇 The rest of the story continues in the first comment under the image 👇
