🌍🍊 Vidarbha Orange Farmers Visit Valencia, Spain – A New Era for Citrus Farming in India! 🍊🌍

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari led a delegation of Vidarbha orange farmers, along with Sahyadri Farms Chairman & MD, Vilas Shinde, to Valencia, Spain—a global leader in orange cultivation. This visit marks a major step toward revolutionizing citrus farming in Maharashtra!

🟠 Why Valencia?
Valencia is famous for its high-quality oranges, advanced grading, sorting, packaging, and branding techniques, and collective farming models. With an astonishing 70 tonnes per hectare yield, their success is a model for India’s farmers.

🟠 Introducing the Tango Variety to India!
The Tango orange variety—known for higher yield, longer shelf life, and strong market demand—will now be grown in Maharashtra! Sahyadri Farms has secured a license to cultivate Tango in India, and an MoU with Eurosemills will guide farmers in adopting this game-changing variety.

🟠 A New Revolution for Vidarbha & Marathwada Farmers
With Nagpuri Santra and Mosambi (sweet lime) from Jalna & Sambhajinagar, the introduction of Tango oranges will create new opportunities, boost farmer incomes, and drive economic transformation. Farmers are encouraged to see farming as an industry and adopt new-age agricultural practices.

🟠 Key Learnings & Collaboration
The delegation visited Cordoba & Seville Orange Packing Houses, attended presentations at Spain’s Agriculture University, and explored Madrid’s Parliament House market to gain insights into global orange trade and marketing strategies.

🟠 A 10-Year Roadmap for an Economic Revolution!
With new technology, innovation, and market access, the next five years will bring massive changes in citrus farming, proving productivity and profitability for farmers.

This visit was organized under the MAGNET_Maharashtra Agribusiness Network, in collaboration with Sahyadri Farmer Producer Company, Nashik, and Agrovision Group, Nagpur.

Exciting times ahead for Indian agriculture! 🚀🍊

Why Sahyadri Farms ?

The seeding of “Sahyadri farms” happened in Nashik in 2011 with the simple intention of ensuring a fair return to the farmers and with the quality produces reaching to the end users. Sahyadri was a movement, to uplift the farmers and to get them their righteous due. Organizations talk about CSR as one of their activities but we at Sahyadri converted the entire organization as CSR and it became a movement!!!

The idea behind the entire movement was to buy all the F&V produce offered by them under the food safety standards. The primary objective was to provide the best of infrastructure and adequate production and processing facilities to the farmers who could not secure a good produce due to frugality of resource and operations.

The movement was to develop first of its kinds branded traceable product-mix that would promote sustained growth and that we could cater with the best to the Indian Consumers too, by offering them quality products at fair prices, and to do so by achieving economies of scale and costs. This movement was driven on Farmer producer model that would play an ever increasing role in the rural economy, providing gainful employment to large numbers of farmers and allied.

A structure, owned by farmers that would, with time, be the farmers “best friend”... And the intention was that the highest levels of consumer confidence would be reposed in the brand called Sahyadri...by ‘Seeding Goodness’.
