Pipe vs pipeline
Pipe and pipeline are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings:
Pipe:
1. A hollow, cylindrical conduit for fluids or gases.
2. Typically made of metal, plastic, or other materials.
3. Used for transporting fluids or gases within a specific location (e.g., building, facility).
Pipeline:
1. A network of pipes connected to transport fluids or gases over long distances.
2. Often used for transporting oil, natural gas, water, or other resources.
3. Can span across cities, states, or even countries.
Key differences:
1. Scope: Pipe refers to a single conduit, while pipeline encompasses a larger network.
2. Purpose: Pipe is for localized transport, while pipeline is for long-distance transmission.
3. Complexity: Pipelines require more infrastructure, maintenance, and regulation.
In NDT, both pipes and pipelines require inspection and testing to ensure integrity and safety.
