To His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya,
William Ruto
Mr. President, are you truly listening to your people?
For a leader should hear the cries of the nation
before crossing oceans and standing on foreign soil.
A father cannot leave his house burning in flames
while his children remain trapped inside.
And today, Kenya feels like that burning house.
Do you know how many families will sleep hungry tonight because of the mandamano?
Drivers who survive on daily income have parked their vehicles with empty pockets.
Many homes depend on what is earned in a single day —
and when the roads fall silent, hunger enters the house uninvited.
Do you understand the pain of a young graduate
walking out of university with a certificate in hand
but no job to feed the dreams that education promised?
Years of sacrifice, sleepless nights, and school fees paid with struggle,
only to meet locked doors and silent offices.
Do you understand the pain of fuel prices rising without mercy?
Every increase at the pump becomes another wound upon the people.
When fuel rises, matatu fares rise.
Food prices rise.
Transport becomes a burden.
Small businesses suffocate.
while salaries remain unchanged like stones in dry ground.
Do you see the parents sitting in dimly lit homes,
counting coins instead of blessings,
wondering whether school fees will be found
before their children are sent away from classrooms?
The economy has turned many hearts into battlefields of worry.
Do you know how many families sleep on empty stomachs tonight?
How many mothers boil water just to calm the cries of hungry children?
How many fathers walk the streets searching for work
with dignity slowly fading beneath dusty shoes?
Do you hear the cries from Githurai, Roysambu, and Uhuru Market?
Where traders watched their sweat and sacrifice reduced to rubble,
their livelihoods buried beneath broken timber and iron sheets.
Jobs disappeared in a single morning,
and many were left holding nothing but memories
