Harvest season is finally here, and the fields are telling beautiful stories. 🌱

This season, farmers supported by Yafika Agri Venture are seeing a clear difference in their crops through access to quality seeds and fertilizers provided through input loans, lay-by arrangements, and walk-in sales within the last mile in Mwanza District.

Across different communities, farmers are harvesting with smiles, hope, and renewed confidence. The results remind us that when farmers access quality inputs on time, they can truly thrive.

For us, this is more than a harvest. It is a reminder that supporting smallholder farmers creates lasting impact.

We are inspired to reach and support even more farmers in the coming farming season.

What has harvest season looked like in your area this year?

On 26 April 2026, Yafika Agri Ventures experienced a devastating robbery at our office during the night, despite the presence of a security guard. Agrochemicals, seeds, post-harvest storage bags, grain protection chemicals, and an office computer were stolen, with the total loss estimated at approximately USD 2,200 (MWK 3.8 million).

This painful incident came shortly after we had successfully supported 147 smallholder farmers through our D-Prize - supported initiative, surpassing our initial target of 100 farmers.

Encouraged by the growing trust from farmers, chiefs, and local leaders, we had expanded our support to include summer farming inputs and post-harvest solutions.

The loss has greatly affected our operations and has been emotionally and financially difficult for our team, especially at a time when we are still recovering loans and resources from ongoing farmer support activities.

Nevertheless, the Yafika Agri Venture management team has since met to assess the situation and explore responsible and sustainable ways of recovering from this setback while continuing to serve farming communities.

The matter was formally reported to the police, and investigations are ongoing.

Although this incident has slowed some of our planned activities, it has not taken away our commitment to supporting last-mile farmers with affordable and quality agricultural inputs.

We remain hopeful, resilient, and deeply grateful for the encouragement and trust that our farmers, partners, supporters, and communities continue to give us during this difficult time.

Even with flexible systems to improve access to affordable, quality agricultural inputs, some households remain unable to participate due to persistent social and economic challenges.

As a social enterprise, Yafika Agri Ventures works closely with traditional leadership to reach these families. Village chiefs identified households that could not access inputs on their own, and Yafika Agri Ventures supported them with certified inputs as part of its corporate social responsibility.

This intervention targeted vulnerable households within the Kunenekude catchment area, with selection guided by household vulnerability and reliance on subsistence farming.

With timely input support and good rainfall, beneficiary farmers expressed optimism for the season and expect harvests that will help meet their household food needs.

At Yafika Agri Ventures, we remain committed to inclusive agricultural transformation that leaves no farmer behind.

Unlocking lasting prosperity.

19th November 2025 – Kunenekude
Over 300 farmers from eight villages gathered, curious and hopeful. The Group Village Head welcomed us, introducing Yafika Agri Ventures (YAV) and our mission in their community.

Many had only heard whispers about YAV, so we shared who we are and why we are here. We unveiled programs designed to make farming easier and more profitable: input loans on a Pay-As-You-Grow basis, flexible lay-by payments, practical training, and timely field guidance.

Even with these options, some farmers still face barriers. That’s why we introduced our organic fertilizer blending initiative, launching this January. Using local beer brewing residues, this program gives every farmer, no matter their resources, the hope of better harvests and additional income.

The Q&A session was electric. Farmers asked, learned, and left full of optimism, confident they can now access inputs affordably, use them effectively, and improve their yields.

At YAV, we don’t just deliver inputs. We aim to restore hope, reduce hunger, and empower communities, one farm at a time.

Bold Moves at MEDA Convention 2025: Innovation, Community, and the Future of Agri-Food Systems ✨🌱

At in Montréal, we witnessed bold moves taking shape in many forms, a farmer choosing to plant differently and prioritizing sustainability, an investor leading with purpose and choosing to believe in people, and entrepreneurs daring to reimagine what’s possible for their communities.

From Wit Holganza’s inspiring journey with Lilamaya Inc. in the Philippines to Arlene Dickinson’s powerful call to invest in people, every story reminded us that bold moves don’t always start big. Sometimes, they begin with a single decision, to act with courage, compassion, and conviction.

Our annual Pitch Competition brought that spirit to life as CornHouse, Yafika Agri Ventures, and HERVeg.05 showcased ventures creating jobs and transforming agri-food systems. 🌾

What emerged in Montréal was more than inspiration, it was a collective commitment to building businesses that create lasting impact for people and the planet. 🌍

As attendees departed Montréal, they carry forward proof that another way is possible. That bold moves, taken collectively, can shift entire systems. 💪

The rains have begun, and with them comes a season that lifts the spirit of every farmer. It is a season of hope, though that hope weakens quickly for a smallholder farmer living in the last mile. Many enter the season without the upfront money needed for quality seed and fertilizer. Others cannot reach the trading centres that sit many kilometres away. Fuel shortages push transport costs higher, and once the rains deepen, the roads turn muddy and slippery, cutting farmers off at the very moment they need inputs the most.

Yafika Agri Venture exists to respond to these realities. We work to restore confidence in the farming season by bringing essential inputs, opportunities and knowledge closer to the people who depend on them. Through partnerships with certified suppliers in Malawi, we buy inputs in bulk and move them directly to our hub in the last mile, where farmers can reach us on foot. With our flexible payment options, farmers are able to access what they need without the burden of heavy upfront costs.

We hold a simple belief: a nation cannot be food secure if it continues to overlook the smallholder farmers who feed it. Our work is to stand with them, strengthen them, and ensure they are not left behind when the rains arrive.
