PART 1 — THE CHILD NOBODY WANTED
In the quiet village of Umudara, there lived a beautiful woman named Chioma and her husband, Emeka. They had been married for many years without a child.
Every day, Chioma prayed for a baby.
One evening, she finally became pregnant.
The whole village celebrated.
Months later, Chioma gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
But instead of joy, anger filled her heart.
“A girl?” she whispered weakly.
“I suffered all these months just to give birth to a girl?”
Her husband smiled happily as he carried the child.
“She is beautiful, Chioma. Look at her eyes.”
But Chioma turned her face away.
“I wanted a son.”
From that day, she hated the innocent child.
The baby cried every night while Chioma ignored her.
One rainy evening, Chioma carried the child secretly toward the river.
The baby was wrapped in an old cloth.
Thunder roared in the sky.
The little child cried softly.
“Mama… Mama…”
Chioma looked at the child with cold eyes.
“You are a curse to me,” she said bitterly.
She dropped the child near the riverbank and began walking away.
The baby cried louder.
But Chioma never looked back.
Soon, the strong river current carried the baby away.
Far away in the nearby village of Obinagu, an old fisherman named Pa Okeke found the child trapped beside his canoe.
“My God!” he shouted.
“A child?”
He quickly carried the weak baby.
The child slowly opened her eyes.
Pa Okeke smiled gently.
“Do not cry, my child. Heaven has brought you to me.”
He named her Ada.
