Please listen. Your mother is very important but so is your wife. It is not a competition and their positions are different.

When you signed up to be a husband, you signed up to protect your wife from all threats domestic and foreign. This includes friends, family etc.

If you watch on while your mother bullies your wife, you are not worthy of that wife in the first place.

Your wife is human and humans have limits, don't wait until this limit is crossed so that you can blame her, do the needful today.

Your home is the space of your wife and while your mother should always be welcome, your wife calls the shots in that space with you.

This is where you get to show the man in you. Many of the discords that exist do because of weak men unable to speak the truth and caution the excesses of overbearing family.

No, it doesn't mean selling your people out. It means creating order, limits and asking that your space, including your spouse, be respected.

Marriage needs a lot of work but if you think for one second that your work, smart decisions and analysis alone will get you through then you are wrong.

Regardless of all the work done, there is still an element of luck to it and that is where your spirituality comes in. Just because something has a higher probability of delivering a good marriage doesn't mean it will, because sometimes, what's wrong with the marriage is not a function of bad character, it is a function of sync and compatibility.

You need prayers and luck too! (Just don't depend on these without adding the hard + smart work)

There are those who still look at people with failed marriages and allow their misconception of it to build a subconscious criticism of them. Be careful how you view divorced people because you don't know what the future holds for that which you not yet know today.

No marriage is perfect, no bond is foolproof. Just keep trying to get better at it.

A failed marriage is not a failed life and it is not a proof of bad character. Two good people can have a bad marriage.
