On May 16, the Catholic Church remembers Saint Simon Stock, a twelfth- and thirteenth-century Carmelite monk whose vision of the Virgin Mary is the source of the Brown Scapular devotion.

Simon was born during 1165 in the English county of Kent. He is said to have been strongly devoted to God from his youth, to the point that he left home at age 12 to live in the forest as a hermit. Following the customs of the earliest monks, he lived on fruit and water and spent his time in prayer and meditation.

After two decades of solitary life in the wilderness, he returned to society to acquire an education in theology and become a priest. Afterwards, he returned to his hermitage until the year 1212, when his calling to join the Carmelite Order – which had only recently entered England – was revealed to him.

During the early 13th century, a group of monks in the Holy Land sought formal recognition as a religious order. Their origins were mysterious, and by some accounts extended back to the time before Christ, originating in the ministry of the Biblical Prophet Elijah.

The Carmelites’ ascetic, contemplative lifestyle was combined with ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is she who is said to have appeared to Simon Stock, telling him to leave his hermitage and join the order that would soon be arriving with the return of two English Crusaders.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. At first glance, it might seem like a feast of departure. Jesus leaves the earth. The disciples are left staring into the sky. But the rich theology of the Church invites us to look much deeper into this mystery. ☁️

Christ did not abandon us to return to a distant realm. Instead, He did something entirely unprecedented. He took our human nature into the very heart of the Holy Trinity. Heaven is no longer just a spiritual dimension. Because of the Ascension, heaven now forever contains human flesh, human bones, and a human heart. 🤍

Even more profoundly, He ascended with His wounds. The glorified scars of the crucifixion are eternally present before the Father. This means your human struggles, your tears, and your bodily reality are known and embraced in the highest heavens. Human nature has been elevated beyond the angels to the very throne of God.

Saint Augustine beautifully taught that Jesus did not leave heaven when He came down to us, nor did He leave us when He went up to heaven. His physical departure made way for a universal presence. He is no longer confined to walking the dusty roads of first-century Judea. Because He has ascended to the Father, He is intimately close to every single one of us across all time and space, most perfectly in the Holy Eucharist. 🍞✨

The Ascension is not a farewell. It is a profound beginning. We are not left as orphans waiting for a distant king. We are living members of His own mystical body. Where the Head has gone, the body is destined to follow. Our ultimate homeland is secured. Let us keep our hearts anchored in heaven so we can bring the light of eternity into the world around us. 🕊️🙏

🌹 May 13 — Feast of Our Lady of Fatima 🌹

On May 13, 1917, Heaven touched the earth in a small village called Fátima, Portugal.

Three humble shepherd children — Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta — were tending their sheep when a radiant Lady “brighter than the sun” appeared above a holm oak tree. She came with a message not only for them, but for the entire world.

Through her apparitions, the Blessed Virgin Mary called humanity to:

📿 Pray the Rosary every day
🙏 Offer sacrifices for sinners
❤️ Make reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
🌎 Pray for peace and conversion

At a time when the world was wounded by war, sin, and confusion, Our Lady came as a loving Mother, reminding us that prayer and repentance can change history.

Her final apparition on October 13, 1917, was marked by the extraordinary Miracle of the Sun, witnessed by nearly 70,000 people — believers and skeptics alike.

But the true miracle of Fátima is not only what happened in the sky…

It is the transformation of hearts.

Today, on her feast day, may we remember her urgent message:

«“Do not offend the Lord our God anymore, because He is already so much offended.”»

In a world filled with fear and uncertainty, Our Lady of Fátima still points us to hope, peace, and her Son, Jesus Christ.

May we answer her call with faith, prayer, and love.

✨ Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
📿 Immaculate Heart of Mary, lead us to Jesus.
🙏 Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Here are the 5 prayers given to the children at Fatima:

1) The Fatima Prayer/Decade Prayer

“O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.”

Mary told the children that people should add this prayer to the end of each decade of the Rosary.

2) The Pardon Prayer

“My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I beg pardon for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.”

This prayer was given to the children by the angel that visited them in 1916, the year before Mary appeared to them.

3) The Angel’s Prayer

“O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary I beg the conversion of poor sinners.”

This is another prayer given to them by the angel. There was a Eucharistic host and chalice suspended in the air, and the angel led them in kneeling before it and praying this prayer.

4) The Eucharistic Prayer

“Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament.”

When Mary appeared to the children for the first time on May 13, 1917, she said, “You will have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort.” According to Lucia, one of the children, a bright light shone all around them, and without thinking about it, they all started reciting this prayer.

5) The Sacrifice Prayer

“O Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor sinners [that I do this].”

Mary gave the children this prayer, as well as the Fatima Prayer/Decade Prayer, on June 13th, 1917. The prayer is meant to be recited when you are offering up suffering to God.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA FOR HELP WITH PROBLEMS.

Most Holy Virgin, on the hills of Fatima, you were so good as to reveal to the three children how, by the saying of the HOLY ROSARY, we could obtain the treasures of grace. Help us to appreciate this Holy prayer more and more so that, by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption, we may obtain the graces we insistently ask from you ……. (ASK FOR THE GRACES YOU REQUIRE OUR LADY TO HELP YOU WITH)

O MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN, PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE.

AMEN.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA

Most Holy Virgin Mary, you came to Fatima to reveal the graces that come from praying the Holy Rosary to three little shepherd children.

Inspire us with a sincere love of this devotion so that, like the shepherd children, it is not a burdensome task but a life-giving prayer.

May our prayers and meditations on the mysteries of our redemption bring us closer to your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Like the children of Fatima, we want to bring God’s word to others. Give us the strength, O Lord, to overcome our doubts so that we may be messengers of the Gospel. We know that Jesus lives in our hearts and we receive Him in the Eucharist.

Lord Jesus, the miracles, prophecies and prayers that Your Mother brought to us at Fatima amazed the whole world. We are certain of her closeness to You. We ask through the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima that you graciously hear and answer our prayers. Especially… (Mention your intentions here…)

Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for us!

Our Lady of the Rosary, Pray for us!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us!

“From famine and war, deliver us.”

Amen.

MAJOR CATHOLIC FEASTS - MAY 2026

Many Catholics see feast days on the calendar,
but few pause to understand what each one truly means.

May is not just a Marian month,
it is a journey through grace, mission, and the life of the Church.

1. MAY 1 - St. Joseph the Worker
The Church begins the month with work, not rest.
St. Joseph reminds us that holiness is found in ordinary duties, in our jobs, our struggles, and our daily responsibilities. He sanctified labor by doing it with love and obedience to God.

Your work is not separate from your faith, it can be your path to heaven.

2. MAY 13 - Our Lady of Fatima
On this day, Mary appeared to three children in Fatima, calling the world to repentance, prayer, and the Rosary.

Her message was simple, but urgent.
When heaven speaks, it is not to scare us… it is to save us.

3.MAY 14 - ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Forty days after Easter, Jesus ascends into heaven - not to leave us, but to prepare a place for us and to entrust the mission of the Church to His followers.

This feast reminds us that:
*Our home is not here
*Our mission is not finished
Christ ascended, but He sent you.

4. MAY 24 - PENTECOST SUNDAY
The coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles marks the birth of the Church.
Fearful men became bold witnesses.
Silence turned into proclamation.

The same Spirit is still active today.
You cannot live the Christian life without the Holy Spirit, invite Him daily.

5. MAY 26 - St. Philip Neri
Known as the “Apostle of Joy,” St. Philip Neri teaches us that holiness is not sadness, it is joyful surrender to God.

He evangelized with humor, simplicity, and love.
If your faith has no joy, something is missing.

6. MAY 31 - Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Mary visits Elizabeth - not to be served, but to serve.
She carries Christ within her, and brings Him to others.

This feast is a powerful reminder:
*When you carry Jesus, you don’t stay still
*You become a blessing to others

True devotion to Mary always leads to action.

IN SUMMARY: A MONTH OF GRACE
May is not just filled with dates,
It is filled with invitations:
* To sanctify your work
* To return to prayer
* To live your mission
* To depend on the Holy Spirit
* To rediscover joy
* To serve like Mary

Today, reflect:
“Am I just seeing these feasts, or living what they represent?”..and let each day of this month draw you closer to God

“The calendar of the Church is not a schedule, it is a path to holiness.”

If this helped you, share it with someone who needs to journey through May with purpose, and tell us in the comments which feast speaks most to your heart.

Be Prayerful. Be Inspired

𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗧. 𝗝𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗣𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗥.

St. Joseph, by the work of your hands and the sweat of your brow, you supported Jesus and Mary, and had the Son of God as your fellow worker. Teach me to work as you did, with patience and perseverance, for God and for those whom God has given me to support.Teach me to see in my fellow workers the Christ who desires to be in them, that I may always be charitable and forbearing towards all. Grant me to look upon work with the eyes of faith, so that I shall recognize in it my share in God’s own creative activity and in Christ’s work of our redemption, and so take pride in it.When it is pleasant and productive, remind me to give thanks to God for it. And when it is burdensome, teach me to offer it to God, in reparation for my sins and the sins of the world.

O good father St. Joseph! I beg you, by all your sufferings, sorrows and joys, to obtain for me what I ask.

(Mention your petitions now)

Obtain for all those who have asked my prayers, everything that is useful to them in the plan of God. Be near to me in my last moments that I may eternally sing the praises of Jesus, Mary, and you, St. Joseph. Amen.

PRAYER FOR PARENTS

O Almighty God,
you gave us the commandment
to honour our father and mother.
In your loving kindness
hear my prayer for my parents.
Give them long lives
and keep them well in body and spirit.
Bless their labours;
keep them always in your care.
Bless them generously for their loving care for me.
Grant that, through your grace,
I may always be their support
and comfort, and that,
after our life together on earth,
we may experience the joy together praising you forever.

Amen.

Prayer for the Repose of Pope Francis

Eternal God,
We remember today your servant, Pope Francis, on the first anniversary of his return to You.
We thank You for the gift of his life, his witness to mercy, and his call to care for the poor, for creation, and for one another.

Grant him the peace of Your presence and the joy of Your kingdom.
Welcome him among the saints and shepherds who have guided Your Church.

For the Church he loved and led, grant us the grace to live the Gospel with the same humility, courage, and joy that marked his ministry. Help us to be builders of bridges, servants of the wounded, and protectors of our common home.

May his example continue to inspire us, and may his prayers now intercede for us before You.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.

PRAYER TO
OUR LADY OF SORROWS

Hallowed Mother,
do this favour:
Those Wounds that gored my Saviour,
deeply on my heart engraved.
Mine it be,
Christ's throes in sharing.
Mine it be,
his anguish bearing.
These, his wounds,
to keep in mind.
From the flame of hell unending,
be thou, Virgin,
me defending,
in that dreadful reckoning day!
When in death my eyes are closing,
open them, Lord,
to see reposing,
Victory's crown in Mary's hand.
When my frame by death is broken,
and my doom by thee is spoken,
be it, Lord, the better land.

Amen.

I beseech you,
O Lord Jesus Christ,
that the Blessed Virgin Mary,
whose most holy soul was pierced
in the hour of your Passion
by the sword of sorrow,
may intercede for us
with Your mercy now
and at the hour of our death.

Amen.
