As September and October approach, the political temperature within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be rising, with reports that Sen. George Akume is coming under increasing pressure from political allies facing critical court battles over the party’s disputed primary elections.

Among those reportedly seeking Akume’s intervention are Sen. Emmanuel Udende, Senator Titus Zam, Hon. Dickson Tarkigh, Tersoo Ugbor, Hon. Asema Achado, Sesoo Gboko and Philip Agbese.

According to sources familiar with the unfolding political drama, the original calculation was allegedly to find a way of replacing Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s name as the APC’s governorship candidate after the primary election. That strategy, however, appears to have hit a major roadblock.

Those whose names were allegedly substituted after emerging from the primary process are now challenging the changes through various legal actions. With some of the cases scheduled for September and October, the outcome could have significant consequences for the APC’s political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the political camp claim that some of the individuals who initially appeared confident about the outcome are now increasingly uncomfortable with the direction of events. The expectation that political influence alone would settle the disputes appears to have given way to a much more uncertain legal battle.

And this is where Senator Akume reportedly finds himself at the centre of the pressure.

Those who stood firmly behind him during the confrontation with Governor Alia are said to be looking toward the former governor and Secretary to the Government of the Federation for political support. Having fought what they believed was a battle in defence of Akume’s political interest,

*Makurdi, Benue State* — A 200-level Political Science student of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, MOAUM, *Rose Adikwu*, is currently hospitalised with severe burns after she was allegedly attacked with hot water by her cousin and co-tenant.

The incident reportedly happened on *Friday, August 28, 2026*, at their residence in Makurdi. f592

According to Rose, the attack followed a prolonged disagreement between her and the suspect, *Agbo Felicia*, a 500-level Chemistry student of the same university. Tensions worsened to the point where Rose asked Felicia to vacate the apartment. f592

Rose alleged that after Felicia packed her belongings, she went to a neighbour’s room, boiled water and mixed it with pepper, salt, onions and seasoning. She then returned and poured the hot mixture on Rose, locked the door and left her inside. f592

Her cries attracted neighbours who intervened and rescued her. Felicia was reportedly intercepted as she attempted to leave the area, and the police were later invited. The suspect has been arrested and is in custody. f59213f5

BREAKING: Governor Alia Urges Benue Farmers to Scale Up Production as Taraku Mills Nears Full Operation

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has urged farmers across the state to significantly increase the production of maize, groundnut, sesame, soybeans, sorghum and other crops needed as raw materials by agro-allied industries.
The governor made the call during his statewide Thank-You Tour, where he engaged stakeholders from the Gwer East/Gwer West and Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituencies.
According to Governor Alia, the Taraku Mills in Gwer East Local Government Area is approaching full-scale production after undergoing test-running, creating a potentially larger market for agricultural produce from farmers across Benue.

Taraku Mills to Create Market for Benue Farmers

Governor Alia explained that the revival of Taraku Mills and other agro-allied industries would strengthen Benue's agricultural value chain by providing farmers with a dependable market for their produce.
He said the development would also help reduce losses associated with post-harvest surpluses, as more agricultural commodities could be processed locally rather than left without adequate buyers.
The governor noted that once Taraku Mills begins full production, a substantial portion of the raw materials required by the company could be sourced directly from farmers within Benue before supplies are sought from neighbouring states such as Taraba, Nasarawa and Kogi.
He therefore encouraged farmers to see the expected industrial demand as an opportunity to increase production and earn more from agriculture.

More Than 2,000 Jobs Expected

The revival of Taraku Mills is expected to create more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while also stimulating economic activities across communities connected to the agricultural value chain.
The governor said the project would help position farmers not only as producers but also as important participants in an emerging industrial economy where agricultural commodities are processed within the state.
Governor Alia also commended residents around Taraku for protecting the company's machinery and equipment from vandalism, saying their cooperation contributed to the successful restoration of the facility.

Government Plans More Teacher Recruitment

Speaking on education, Governor Alia disclosed that following the recruitment of 9,700 primary school teachers, his administration was making arrangements for additional recruitment of teachers for both primary and secondary schools.
He said the move was intended to address manpower shortages and improve the quality of education across the state.

Alia Speaks on Roads and Security

The governor also promised to examine concerns raised over the Makurdi–Naka Road and other priority roads, including roads within communities in Gwer.
On security, Governor Alia reiterated that his administration would continue working toward lasting peace across Benue.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army 5 Division in Benue, with its headquarters in Makurdi and deployments planned across strategic locations.
Governor Alia also maintained that Benue's land must remain available to the people for farming and other legitimate economic activities, stressing that no part of the state would be surrendered for ranching.

A New Opportunity for Benue Agriculture

The revival of Taraku Mills could mark an important step toward reconnecting Benue farmers with large-scale industrial processors.
If successfully sustained, the development could increase demand for farm produce, encourage higher agricultural output, create employment, strengthen local processing and reduce the economic impact of post-harvest losses.

Davido Would Have Been Arrested in Rwanda, Ethiopia Over Osun Election Posts — Tinubu’s Aide

The Presidency has criticised Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his social media activities during the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said Davido’s political posts and activities would have attracted arrest in countries such as Rwanda and Ethiopia.
Speaking during an interview with Symfoni TV, Ajayi described Davido as an active participant in the election, alleging that the singer used his social media platforms to campaign for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“Davido was an active participant in the process. He went all out for his uncle to win the election. He was part of the process and even held a position in the campaign structure,” Ajayi said.

The presidential aide argued that Davido’s posts were politically motivated because of his relationship with the governor.
According to Ajayi, Nigeria’s democratic environment allows citizens to express their views on social media, but he warned that making unverified claims capable of causing tension could have consequences.

“Davido Would Be Picked Up”

Ajayi further claimed that Davido would not have been able to make similar statements freely in countries such as Rwanda or Ethiopia.

“Davido can't dare say or tweet all of those things in countries like Rwanda or Ethiopia. He will be picked up to come and provide evidence,” he said.

He also accused the singer of making claims without sufficient evidence and warned that such statements could potentially incite members of the public.
Davido was highly active on social media during the Osun election period, openly supporting his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who secured re-election.

🚨 JUST IN: Umahi Drags Linda Ikeji, Others To Court, Demands N2.5 Billion Over Alleged Defamation

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has filed a N2.5 billion defamation lawsuit against media personality Linda Ikeji, Linda Ikeji TV Limited and Stella Ifeoma Okengwu.
The suit, reportedly marked GWD/CV/264/26, was filed on August 24, 2026, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division.
According to the case summary, Umahi alleged that the defendants published a series of statements and videos concerning him between March 2025 and March 2026, which he described as false, malicious and defamatory.

What Umahi Is Alleging

The minister claims that some of the publications allegedly linked him to serious allegations, including bribery, corruption, intimidation, sexual misconduct, land grabbing, sexual harassment and being unfit to hold public office.
Umahi reportedly demanded that the publications be removed and that an unreserved public apology be issued. According to the case summary, those demands were allegedly not complied with.
He has therefore approached the court seeking several orders, including a declaration that the publications are defamatory and an order directing the defendants to remove the disputed materials from their social media platforms and other media outlets.

Umahi's N2.5 Billion Claim

N2 billion in exemplary damages;

The legal team representing Umahi is reportedly led by A. J. Owonikoko, SAN, alongside other Senior Advocates of Nigeria from Synergy Attorneys.

Defendants Yet To Be Served

The case summary reportedly indicated that, at the time it was prepared, the defendants had not yet been served with the writ.
The allegations contained in the lawsuit remain allegations made by the minister and have not been established by the court. If and when the defendants are served, they will have the opportunity to respond and present their defence.
