A Nigerian police officer, identified as Newton Isokoehi, took to his TikTok handle to express discontent over a directive allowing citizens to record police officers on duty.
In a viral video, he made a thrẽatening statement, “I’m waiting for the day I will be on duty with my rifle and anyone will video me, I will send him to his gravẽ and everyone and the senior officer who gave them the permission to video police on duty will go and bury them.”
He lamented about serving 26 years in the police force without proper welfare, stating that they sew their uniforms themselves and receive no allowances. Some Nigerians have taken to social media to raise awareness about the officer's thrẽät, urging citizens to exercise caũtion.
In light of this, I join the voices of concerned Nigerians in calling on the Inspector General of Police to identify the officer and immediately disǎrm him to prevent potential härm to innocent civilians.
Furthermore, I recommend that the Nigerian Police Force conduct an urgent reorientation program for all serving officers and consider subjecting them to měntal evaluation to ensure they can perform their duties safely and effectively, minimizing conflicts with civilians. Given the rišks associated with police officers carrying firẽarms, it is crucial to ensure they are mentally fit to handle such responsibilities.
To the apex authority of the Nigerian police, please be proactive, knowing about a looming or potential dãnger before it happens gives you the advantage of preparing for it and preventing it. To be fǒrewarned is to be forẽârmed!
