In the animal kingdom, romance is usually an art form.
Birds sing complex melodies.
Peacocks fan out iridescent feathers.
Fireflies dance in synchronized light shows.
And then there is the male hippo.
An animal that approaches dating with the exact same energy as a fourteen-year-old boy emptying an entire can of Axe Body Spray before a middle school dance.
Zero subtlety.
Pure chaotic confidence.
When a male hippo spots a female he likes, he doesn't bring flowers.
He doesn't serenade her.
Instead, he turns completely around, points his backside directly at her, and spins his tail like a motorized weed-whacker.
Propelling a 360-degree storm of dung and urine straight into the atmosphere.
To him, this is peak charm.
An airborne chemical portfolio of health, diet, and unquestionable masculinity.
To everyone else in a thirty-foot radius, it is an active biological hazard zone.
Look closely at the female watching from the water.
That is the universal stare of pure, unadulterated regret.
We have all watched someone shoot their shot with breathtaking confidence and catastrophic ex*****on.
The hippo just took that exact dating disaster and turned it into an entire evolutionary lifestyle.
