Facilitator: Mrs. Enobong Etuk
Workshop Overview
The one-day social media sensitization seminar brought together market women from across Akwa Ibom State to learn how to leverage digital platforms for business growth. The event also served as an opportunity for the women to show solidarity with His Excellency, Pastor Umo B. Eno, Ph.D., Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who has been instrumental in supporting women entrepreneurs through government grants.
Key Highlights
1. Taking Business Beyond Physical Shops
Mrs. Enobong Etuk, the workshop facilitator, sensitized participants on the immense opportunities available through social media platforms. She emphasized that market women should no longer limit themselves to static positions in their physical shops but should embrace digital marketing to reach customers far beyond their immediate localities.
2. Creating Engaging Video Content
The facilitator encouraged the women to take their social media presence seriously by creating compelling video content featuring their products. She advised them to demonstrate:
• Product knowledge and expertise – For example, periwinkle sellers could create content showing which type of periwinkle is best suited for different soups
• Product quality and authenticity – Palm oil sellers could market themselves as providers of the best, most authentic palm oil
• Educational tips and DIY(do it yourself) guides – Sharing valuable information that positions them as experts in their trade
3. Accessing Grants and Financial Support
Mrs. Etuk boldly encouraged the women to be confident in demanding substantial grants from government agencies, NGOs, and other donor organizations. She challenged them to think bigger and request amounts such as:
• ₦2,000,000
• ₦5,000,000
• ₦10,000,000
• Up to ₦20,000,000
She emphasized that confidence in their trade and business potential is essential when approaching grant opportunities. Furthermore, she noted that having a strong social media presence would significantly increase their visibility to potential grant donors and sponsors.
Building Community Through Facebook Groups
The facilitator recommended that the association create a Facebook group where all members can post their content, share experiences, and attract customers collectively. This approach would:
• Foster an engaging community among members
• Increase the visibility and virality of individual businesses
• Create a support network for collaborative growth
