It’s always nice to drop by supermarket to see/ feel local life.

First three photos are in Yamagata prefecture, last two from Aichi prefecture. Those products which I felt unique/ local at there.

I was in Yamagata prefecture and visited A “Michi-no-Eki” is a roadside station in Japan where travelers can rest, buy local food and products, and get tourist information.

Yamagata is well known for producing cherries and I was wondering if I could have it because it’s not season yet. In the Michi-no-Eki, I’ve found this greenhouse-grown cherries. It was very expensive for me, but I’m here for it, bought it. It was a fresh sweet.

旅の楽しみはスーパーマーケット。
その土地を感じることができます。

初めの3枚は山形県、最後の2枚は愛知県。

観光案内所でさくらんぼは？と聞くと時期にはまだ早いよと言われたのであまり期待せず道の駅によると温室育ちのかわいいさくらんぼがあったので購入しました。

他に珍しいと感じたのはオカヒジキとみょうがたけ。ここみょうがたけは初めて見たのでお店のマダムに聞いてみると花が咲く前の若い茗荷葉っぱ／茎を薬味にして食べるそうで、マダムにどう食べるのか？と聞くと茹でたオクラに刻んで和えて食べるそうです。残念ながら宿にキッチンがないのでお土産にすることにしました。

私はスーパーのおつとめ品コーナーが好きでまずそこをチェックするのですが愛知県のスーパーで立派な大根葉が売られていたので購入して厚揚げと一緒に炊いて食べました。

スーパーで土地や季節が感じられるのは嬉しいことです。

Mitarashi dango🍡

Mitarashi dango is a traditional Japanese sweet made of soft rice dumplings on skewers, grilled and coated with a glossy sweet soy sauce glaze. It has a delicious balance of sweetness and a light savory flavour.

I’ve visited Shimogamo shrine in Kyoto and found this panel. It said the name “Mitarashi dango” comes from the sacred Mitarashi Pond at the shrine, where natural bubbles rising from the water are said to have inspired the sweets.

The natural bubbles became the shape of sweets 🫧🫧🫧
I love the story and nicely translated to food.

機会があり、初めて下鴨神社に参拝しました。
大きな敷地にいくつものお社があります。
その一つにこんな立札を見つけました。

「みたらし団子の由来は御手洗池の名前とその池に自然に生まれる泡を表現したもの」

みたらし団子がまさかこれが泡の表現であるとは知りませんでした。さながらボッティチェリのビーナス誕生日のような響きです。これからみたらし団子を見る目が変わりそうです。

I grew up in Gifu city, but I also feel a strong connection to the culture of the countryside, as my grandparents lived there.

This time, I visited their village again. It had been beautifully organised for tourism, which felt quite different from how I remembered it in the past, and there were many visitors. I don’t remember ever visiting there at this time of year before, so everything felt fresh and new to me.

I also visited some petroglyphs that I happened to find by chance on a map. They were deep in the mountains, and I found them very impressive.

祖父母が住んでいた東濃へ行きました。
私が子供の頃はまだ人が住んでいる町としてありましたが、町は観光用に綺麗に整備されていて観光客の方がたくさんいらしていました。

懐かしのお店も現役で立ち寄ったり、新しいお店を覗いたりしました。

子供の頃はなんにもないなあと見えた景色も懐かしさと消えていくかもしれないなあと心に焼き付けるようによく見ておきました。

たまたま地図で見つけたペトログリフへ立ち寄りました。
車がすれ違えない細道で車とすれ違うことになり冷や汗をかきましたがなかなかの景色でした。

Love my carton box 📦🤍

I’m enjoying Japan’s early summer for the first time in quite a while.
For the first time in my life, I went bamboo shoot picking in a friend’s bamboo grove.
All the firewood-chopping training I did during the winter turned out to be very useful.

Love my basket will be taking a short break for a while, but I hope you’ll continue to enjoy my occasional posts.

ひさしぶりに日本の初夏を満喫しています。
人生初のたけのこ狩りを友達の竹藪でさせてもらいました。
冬の間やっていた薪割りトレーニングが役立ちました。

Happy 🐣 Easter

It’s a nice spring day today. People are walking with smiles.
I was slow today and I’ve been to market in the afternoon.

Live my basket🤍
It was busy market today. I went to there slightly late and that gave me different impression.

I bought the last piece of purple sweet potato’s. A staff member who knows me well gave me discount for it.
I’m going to grill it!

今日はちょっと遅くマーケットに行ったらすごい人混みでぐったりしていまいました。

馴染みの店員さんが「今日はさつまいもがお得だよ！」と声をかけてくれたので残りわずかな数本を渡すと、「最後のさつまいもだからおまけしとくよ！」とお得にお買い物しました。

今年のアムスは春が早くやってきた様子で桜も満開といった感じです。

花粉症の症状が出てなんとなく目や喉がかゆいです🤧

I bought this huge cauliflower today :-) It didn’t fit in my basket💦 I don’t have so much recipes for cauliflower yet, so I would like to discover something new this week.

今日はいつもと違って朝からバタバタしていました。
少しルーチンが変わるとなかなかペースを掴めないものです。

今日はでっかいカリフラワーを買いました。
カリフラワーはいつも簡単に料理することが多いのであまりバリエーションがないのですが、今週はちょっと簡単で美味しいレシピの研究でもしてみようとおもいます。

アムスはなんとなく何かの花粉が飛んでいるようで目がかゆいです。

Love my basket🤍

It’s a foggy morning. Yesterday was a warm spring day with blue sky. The contrast makes this grey sky even more greyer.

Actually it’s not bad. I feel as if I’m in another city or somewhere else because of the buildings are melting into the fog.

I bought this fresh spinach at the market. It looks gorgeous and fresh. The shopkeeper was smiling and said ‘I harvested our fields yesterday!’ It’s trustworthy!

‘Today’s Andijvie and cucumber are the first harvest in the Netherlands.’ he said. Of course they were grown in a greenhouse. But I could feel the season slowly moving towards summer.

昨日は青い空に春模様だったアムステルダムから今日はまたグレーの曇り空に戻りました。グレーがいつもの倍のグレーに感じます。

今日の曇り空は意外に嫌いじゃないなあと思わせてくれるのはきっと建物が霧の中に溶けていつもと違う街に来たような気分にさせてくれているからかもしれません。

今日の担当のお兄さん、私がいつも長ネギを買うので白菜を注文すると「長ネギもいる？」と声かけしてくれました。

「うん、お願い。」と取り寄せてもらっている間に野菜を見回していると、

「今日はほうれん草がいいよ！お買い得品&昨日僕が畑で収穫してきたからね！」とお兄さん。

「じゃあ500gお願いします。」と購入しました。
つまみ食いしてみると苦味も少なく若いほうれん草という感じ。

「アンダイビーときゅうりも初物だよ！」とお兄さんがいうのできゅうりも購入。(もちろんハウス栽培)
アンダイビーは苦味のあるレタスのような野菜であんまり得意じゃないので今日はパス。

少しずつ夏に向かって時が流れているのを感じます。

I’m so happy to see this blue sky.
Many Italian vegetables are there today too. This red daikon is also from Italy and I love this big leaves.

We have cold days, but it will be over soon!

今日も寒い朝のアムステルダムですが、肌をさす寒さではないです。何よりもこの青い空と陽射しに救われます。

寒さもきっとあと少し！暖かくして美味しいお茶を飲みながら春を待ちましょうね。

今日もイタリア産の野菜が店先に並んでいました。
今日は立派な葉っぱ付きの大根があったので迷わずに購入しました。葉っぱは炒めるか？それともふりかけ？

今日はキーンと寒いのですがピーカンのお天気のアムステルダムです。

いつもの店先では春を告げるイタリア野菜がいっぱい並んでいました。中にひょうたんみたいな小ぶりのトマトがあったので試しに買ってみました。どんな味かな？

今日はバレンタインですね。日本では女性が準備に忙しい日ですがヨーロッパは男性から女性へお花やチョコレートをプレゼントするのが主流なのでとっても気楽な日です。私もどこかからお花とかもらえるかしら？？
