Glyphosate and chronic diseases: are we joining the dots too late?

Over the last thirty years, we’ve witnessed something unsettling. Chronic diseases – from gut disorders and food allergies to autoimmune conditions and cancers – have surged at rates that can’t be ignored.

In the same period, glyphosate use exploded, not only as a herbicide, but also as a desiccant, sprayed on crops like wheat, oats and peanuts to dry them out before harvest.

Thanks to More Glyphosate NZ for this article, research and references.

Food is meant to be safe and nutritious for humans and animals and its production shouldn't compromise the environment and soil.

The spraying of our food with synthetic chemicals is just not good for us. It is blanket application of chemicals and everything gets a coating, plants and biodiversity alike.

But why do we accept any pesticides in our food? It would certainly be better if they were not there in the first place, better for our health, better for our planet and better for biodiversity. So, where you can, choose organic, choose local, frequent your local farmers' market. Avoid imported produce. Thanks, Ireland.

🌱 It’s concerning that glyphosate is still being used right up to harvest in NZ, while many other countries are backing away from it. As an organic farm, we’ve seen firsthand that healthy soil and strong crops don’t need chemical shortcuts. It’s time to put food safety, environmental health, and long-term thinking first.

While other countries are banning pre-harvest glyphosate spraying, NZ is raising residue limits instead. Is this about food safety—or industry convenience?
