Even richer blackout nation

Seems PNG still will be walking into 2026 with more power blackouts, and water cuts. To add more value to our richness on this front, now we also look largely blacked out on the satellite internet provider, Starlink’s, availability Map when we checked. There we are, the biggest blackest dot shaded in the region. All our teeny tiny neighbours in the Pacific shining bright like diamonds are part of more than 150 countries moving forward while we take a different path we anticipate with this.

The annual Sepik 9s tournament has a new naming right sponsor in JS Commodity. Commonly called the Agmark Sepik 9s, the competition has been renamed to JS Commodity Sepik 9s with the 6th edition of the tournament set for January 26 – 27, 2026, at Pora Oval, Wewak under the new name.

AN economist has predicted that 2026 will be another strong year for the country despite the negative news that will come if PNG is put on the grey-list.

Economist Kishti Sen said that investments in large construction projects would not be disrupted because sovereign risk, while important, was not the overarching determinant of major projects.

“We expect the flow of FDI to rise in the second half of 2026. Placement on the grey list is unlikely to derail this project as it is well advanced in its front-end engineering design work and is close to a final investment decision,” he said.
