The President of the UPNG Enga Students Association, Friel Lilya, has issued a strong public warning about a fake event flyer circulating in Port Moresby.

Speaking on behalf of the association, Lilya said the flyer promoting “UPNG Enga Night” is using the association’s name without permission.

He made it clear that the association has not approved the event and is not aware of it.

“I want to inform the public that this event is not organized by us. We did not give any approval,” Lilya said.

He explained that Enga students at the University of Papua New Guinea are not interested in organizing nightclub events of this nature.

Therefore, he warned that the public should not be misled by the flyer.

According to Lilya, the situation appears to involve a group or individual trying to use the association’s name to make money.

He stressed that using the association’s name without approval is wrong, illegal, and misleading.

Meanwhile, Lilya is calling on students and the public to remain alert and report any information about those responsible.

“If you know who is behind this event, please report it to us immediately,” he said.

In addition, he urged the public to share the warning widely to prevent others from being deceived.

The association says it will continue to protect its name and reputation, while also working to ensure students and the public are not misled by false information.

Alex Johnston, the South Sydney Rabbitohs' star winger, has made history in the National Rugby League (NRL) by breaking the all-time try-scoring record, previously held by Ken Irvine since 1969. Johnston achieved this milestone on March 13, 2026, scoring his 213th try in a match against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium ¹ ².

The moment was electric, with fans storming the field to celebrate Johnston's achievement. The Rabbitohs' player was mobbed by teammates and security guards, and even hoisted onto the shoulders of Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham. "Pretty awesome, the crowd running on," Johnston said after the game ².

Johnston, who plays for Papua New Guinea internationally, has been a prolific try-scorer throughout his career. He has scored 214 tries in 245 games for the Rabbitohs and has won the Ken Irvine Medal for top try-scorer multiple times. His consistency and skill have earned him a reputation as one of the greatest try-scorers in NRL history ¹ ³.

The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, was among those who entered the playing field to congratulate Johnston on his achievement. The win was a special moment for the Rabbitohs, who lost the game 26-18 but will forever remember Johnston's record-breaking try ⁴. Mangi PNG

: REPEATED CRIMES,VIOLENCE LED TO 2 MILE EVICTION: GOVERNOR PARKOP INTERVENES WITH RESETTLEMENT FOR AFFECTED FAMILIES.

National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says the eviction at Rabiagini 2-Mile in Port Moresby was forced on authorities after repeated failures by the community to renounce crime and violence.

Governor Parkop said he had not commented earlier because he was focused on managing the situation, working with Acting Prime Minister John Rosso , Minister and Member for Moresby South Justin Tkatchenko, ACP Benjamin Turi, Metsup Warrick Simatab, Member for Goilala Casmiro Aia and community leaders to manage the situation.

He said the community had been given many opportunities to change, including a full community meeting in 2022, but the problems continued.

“We can’t continue to do the same thing expecting a different outcome. We have to do things differently. It was our plan to undertake an orderly relocation and resettlement but this situation was forced on our hands” he said.

Describing the situation as unfortunate and regrettable, Governor Parkop said many innocent people, especially women and children, were affected by the eviction and many more had been affected by the continuous violence and criminal activities over the years in the area

He acknowledged that some residents were third or fourth generation settlers who would face challenges resetting their lives, but said the NCDC Administration was committed to resettling them and had catered for this in its 2025 and now 2026 Provincial budget.

“This situation at 2-Mile has been forced on us,” Governor Parkop said.

“We had a planned resettlement program which we factored into our budget last year and this year. Last year, the anniversary and other emergencies like the 2-Mile road collapse and the crack at the Hanuabada By-pass affected our plans. We were also waiting for subdivision of our land at Ferea. We would have done a planned and smooth relocation and resettlement.”

He said the current situation meant the eviction had to be carried out in this way, adding that the community must accept responsibility rather than passing blame.

On his part, Governor Parkop, said he has instructed the City Manager Ravu Frank and his NCDC team to work with the various communities at 2-Mile to help resettle and provide basic needs to the displaced communities.

Governor Parkop said authorities would also begin relocating other communities at 2-Mile, mainly Simbu, Eastern Highlands and some Southern Highlands groups, as part of an orderly and planned relocation and resettlement process as early as tomorrow Tuesday 27th January, 2026. .

He said funding for the exercise was included in the 2026 NCD BUDGET which was passed and approved this afternoon by the NCDC Board. Basic support to the affected communities now will be released based on needs assessment.

Governor Parkop said other settlement communities in the city centre had been identified and would be given notice once alternative sites were prepared.

He reiterated that under Physical Planning and Building Board laws, all unauthorised buildings and developments are subject to demolition at any time on appropriate notice.

He said all communities in the capital city had been warned that violence would result in demolition after one or two notices, adding that 8-Mile and Joyce Bay communities had already been warned.

The Governor also stressed that residents from Goilala and other community who respect others and maintain peace were not being targeted.

He continued that the Goilala communities in Vadavada, Erima, 9-Mile, Morata and Waigani were not under threat because they come to maintain peace with other ethic groups in these areas

He recalled a peace ceremony held last year between Engan and Goilala communities following killings and destruction at Waigani , during which the Engan community paid K60,000, pigs, food and other goods as compensation. This has resulted is peace between the two communities at Waigani

“If we respect each other and promote peace and unity, no harm or danger will come to any of us,” Governor Parkop said.
