Laboratory studies have shown that dandelion root extract can destroy over 90% of colon cancer cells within 48 hours, while leaving healthy cells unharmed. The extract activates several cell-death pathways, even in cancers lacking the tumor-suppressor gene p53. In animal studies, it slows tumor growth without causing toxicity.

Dandelion root is also valued for supporting liver function, increasing bile flow up to fourfold, which helps improve fat metabolism. Its high potassium content contributes to better digestion, and it is often used as a natural coffee alternative. Additionally, it supports detoxification through the lymphatic system and the blood, making it useful for conditions such as acne, hormonal imbalances, constipation, and mental fatigue.

For tea preparation, 1 to 2 tea bags may be steeped in 8 ounces of boiling water, with milk or molasses added for taste if preferred. Alternatively, 4 to 5 tablespoons of raw or roasted dandelion root can be simmered in 1 quart of water for at least 20 minutes after boiling. Once strained, start with about 1/4 cup daily and gradually increase to 1–2 cups per day.
