Guinea’s President Mamadi Doumbouya has returned to Conakry today, Friday, August 14, 2026, after an 11-day stay abroad, officially described as an annual vacation in Greece.

His return comes amid growing speculation on social media that the Guinean leader had been toppled or faced an internal challenge from within the military.

But the Big General is back in Conakryβ€”putting an end, at least for now, to the rumours surrounding his absence.

Doumbouya, who transitioned from military ruler to elected President of Guinea following the country’s presidential election, now faces renewed attention over the political direction of the nation.

The question dominating the region is simple:

Was the coup talk just social-media speculation, or was there something more behind the rumours?
