We glorify God that Agut Nyikcho, who went missing in Pibor 72 hours ago, has escaped and been reunited with his parents in Lekuangole yesterday.

Agut was abducted by unidentified men at the Pibor River banks on Saturday, 5th December 2025, when he had gone to take a shower at the river. The criminals grabbed him, tied him up, and severely beat him before leading him into the dark forests of Ngarwalim Payam.

Agut Nyikcho Aliparok, whose father is a member of the Lekuangole County Representative Council, is a Uganda Certificate of Secondary Education holder with excellent aggregates. He came to South Sudan last year to look for tuition fees so he could pursue his university education. He is young and unaware of the dangers happening in the area.

We call upon the government and all people of goodwill to stand firm and stop the continued abduction of students. This is not just an abduction. It deeply wounds families who are hoping to see a better future for their children.

Reports received this evening indicate that the Red Belt Army, a rebel group from Greater Jonglei, has surrounded the Murle camp in Mageri County. They are reportedly waiting until sunrise to launch an attack on the Murle cattle keepers. The situation is believed to have developed around 9:30 PM.

Official Statement: Gumuruk County Commissioner Condemns Brutal Attack by Suspected Dinka Bor Armed Group

Gumuruk County, South Sudan – June 15, 2025

The Commissioner of Gumuruk County has strongly condemned the brutal attack reportedly carried out this afternoon by armed elements suspected to be from Dinka Bor. The attack claimed the lives of nine civilians, led to the abduction of seven women and children, and the looting of household cattle from three families.

“This was a cowardly and barbaric act against innocent civilians,” the Commissioner stated. “Such violence has no place in our communities and must be condemned in the strongest terms. We demand immediate action from national authorities, Jonglei state and peace partners to hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent further bloodshed.”

Youri, a commercial bike rider, was abandoned by his wife and left to raise their child alone. His experience is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

"At first, I tried to hide it from customers. I would zip up my jacket to keep the child discreet. It was only later that people realized I was carrying a baby with me," Youri shared.

His words reveal the quiet battles many men face behind the scenes.

We always hear the women’s side, and it’s important, but maybe it’s time we also listen to the fathers who stayed.

Subject: An amendment of murle cultural songs and dances between age sets and among sub- age sets as per accepted values and norms of the murle community.

With due honour and respect, the office of GPAA YU in collaboration with SALT Organisation is thrilled and privileged to announce the launching of planned initiative scheduled for Monday 15th June, 2025 which aimed at addressing and amending harmful traditional practices, most especially on songs and dances between the two selected age sets ( Lango $ Kurnenen ) and among verified sub age sets (Nyakenet) which in most of the cases twists and goes parallel with murle culture hence promote hatred and divisions.

However, the main purpose of this initiative is solely to bring back lost culture and therefore,foster bonds of relationships among youth as well as promoting peace and harmony between the selected age sets (buulo) and among the identified sub- age groups. (Nyakenet)

Similarly, the office of GPAA Youth Union, in collaboration with SALT organisation, together with relevant stakeholders, will work closely with the members from age sets and will set modalities of identifying harmful cultural practices with an aim of eradicating them, giving a way to cultural heritage preservation as well as promotion of peaceful environment for all youth.
Besides this, the talented youth who can compose songs for cultural preservation are invited to be part of the team. The two selected age sets and subgroups will be competing in peaceful composed songs for dancing and the winner will be rewarded at the last stage.

We therefore believe that meaningful changes within the community through collaborative efforts from all members of the society as we are journeying to the world of peace and harmony.

US judge has ruled that President Trump's deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles was illegal.

On June 12, 2025, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that President Donald Trump’s deployment of the California National Guard to Los Angeles was illegal, siding with California Governor Gavin Newsom’s lawsuit claiming the action violated state sovereignty and federal law. The judge found that Trump failed to comply with Title 10, Section 12406, which requires presidential orders to federalize the National Guard to be issued “through” the state governor, a step Trump bypassed without Newsom’s consent. Breyer also rejected the Trump administration’s claim that protests against immigration raids constituted a “rebellion,” deeming the deployment unwarranted as local authorities had the situation under control. The ruling ordered control of the National Guard to be returned to California, though it did not address the separate deployment of 700 Marines, which remains a point of contention.

South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) Participates in Joint Technical Workshop on Privileges and Immunities for UN Entities

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) is actively participating in the Joint Technical Workshop on the Implementation of Privileges and Immunities for United Nations Entities, taking place from 3 to 4 June 2025 in Juba.

The workshop was officially opened today, 3 June 2025, by Hon. Ambassador Akuei Bona Malwal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. H.E. Nicholas Haysom, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for South Sudan and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), also delivered keynote remarks.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Finance and Planning, and UNMISS, this important workshop highlights the commitment of key national institutions—including SSNBS—to strengthen inter-agency coordination and ensure the effective implementation of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and the broader legal framework governing the presence and operations of UN entities in South Sudan.
