A fresh load of beef is headed home.

Today we picked up new inventory from Local Cuts Meat Company in Zephyr, Texas. It’s always exciting to see the process come full circle, from calves we’ve raised from birth to professionally processed beef ready for families’ freezers.

We’re grateful to work with great partners who help us bring quality beef from our ranch to your table.

We are enjoying the evening at Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Ranch Gathering at Lambshead Ranch in Albany with one of our grandsons. Ranching is built on more than cattle and land. It’s built on relationships, shared knowledge, and a commitment to keeping agriculture strong for future generations.

Pretty sure this Charolais calf was trying to figure out what we were doing. 👀🐄

Another cutting nearly ready for the baler.

Every bale represents months of planning, early mornings before the sun comes up, and late nights long after it goes down. It means watching the weather, maintaining equipment, and making the most of every opportunity when conditions are right.

Hay season can be exhausting, but there’s something rewarding about seeing the rows lined up and knowing this hay will help feed cattle for months to come.

One of the questions we get asked is, “What do you feed your cattle?”

The answer is simple: quality feed.

These feedlot calves are currently eating Red Chain feed, a brand we have trusted for years. There are no medications added, just quality ingredients and a carefully balanced ration.

The feed bill isn’t cheap, but neither are shortcuts. Our calves are averaging over 4 pounds of gain per day, and that nutrition helps develop the quality beef we’re proud to raise.

Good cattle, good feed, and a commitment to doing things right.

Meet Freddy. 🩵

If you’ve ever visited the farm, chances are Freddy was the first one to greet you.

Freddy is our miniature white donkey with bright blue eyes, a sweet personality, and absolutely no concept of personal space. He came to us from the Buffalo Gap Flea Market and quickly became everyone’s favorite.

Well… almost everyone’s.

Our horse, Spike, would probably tell a different story.

For reasons known only to Freddy, he has developed a hobby of closing stall doors behind Spike and occasionally locking him inside. We’re not saying Freddy does it on purpose, but we’re also not saying he doesn’t. 😆

Despite his mischievous streak, Freddy is gentle with children, loves attention, and has been part of countless farm memories over the years. Some animals earn a place on a farm. Others earn a place in your heart.

Freddy somehow managed to do both.

Some of the best moments on the ranch aren’t planned.

Summer evenings like this remind us how fortunate we are to care for this land and these animals.

🌈🐄 Texas evenings never disappoint.

These steers are putting in the final work before heading to the butcher this fall.

They’re currently weighing around 1,200 pounds and will likely be closer to 1,600 pounds by the time they make the trip. Every animal is raised from birth with a focus on quality, consistency, and care every step of the way.

The result is premium beef with the rich flavor and marbling that comes from time, patience, and good genetics.

Not every ranch dog spends his evenings chasing cattle.

When Stewie comes to town, city life just isn’t exciting enough, so he watches cows on YouTube. 🐄📺

Apparently, you can take the dog off the ranch, but you can’t take the ranch out of the dog. 🤠🐾
