Tall friends on neighbood walks, bowing their heads, filled with the summer sun.

Some days, I drive by a tree in a parking lot, a graceful canopy of small, delicate leaves that looks like it houses something ethereal. I'll have to get a photo of it to share with you.

Fell asleep thinking of chai, made some this morning while my young chef mixed us all a pannekoeken. The chai is from , the recipe for pannekoeken is:

3 eggs
1/8 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
90 grams flour (3/4c)
4 Tbsp butter

Turn on oven to 375°, throw butter in cast iron skillet and put in the oven as it heats up.

Whisk eggs and salt. Add milk. Add flour. Whisk whisk whisk, if you can't get all the tiny lumps out it's fine. I haven't ever over-mixed this recipe, but I imagine you could. Let it sit on the counter.

When the butter is all melted in the pan, take the pan out of the oven. Pour batter in. Put back in oven. This should be a fast ordeal, keep the pan hot.

Wait! Start checking it about 25 mins in, it should puff up and have some golden brown coloring on it. If it's only golden yellow, it's not done yet!

Turn it onto a plate. Eat with maple syrup or some jam or spinach and cheese, dress it up in whatever clothes you like. Plain is my favorite.

Until next time,
Tabatha

The desert willow we planted made it through three seasons and sent out these flowers this week. I went to last week and felt inspired; surely I can help turn my front yard into a place I'd like to read in. It's west-facing, full sun, no wall, but I did plant two Spanish broom along the north side, and there are juniper bushes on the west. The desert willow is at a corner, and we also planted an apricot tree in the center of the yard. Do you know somewhere full of flowers right now? Let me know, I'd love to travel to see a field of sunflowers, perhaps. I've got my eyes on those fat cactus tunas all over the city.

Tomorrow, Sunday, August 2nd, is the last show of The Lion King, Jr. If you've got kiddos interested in theatre, come check it out. I was talking with someone earlier today about the difficultly in describing this group. "Children's theatre" doesn't cut it--the level of professionalism and brilliance of these shows makes for some of the best performances I've ever seen. Come! Bring your kids! Your grandkids! 🦁

The Lion King, Jr. opened at Rodey Theatre last weekend. There are three more shows this upcoming weekend. If you have kiddos interested in theatre, take them! Maybe they would love to audition for the next show.

The company is Cardboard Playhouse Theatre Company, run by the same folks who run The Box Performance Space.

My kiddo has been in several shows with them in the last three years, so if you have any questions, reach out and I'd be happy to share our family's experience.

Photos are not by me this time! Go give Cardboard Playhouse a follow on their FB page and see more pictures from the show.

The last photo is of me and my cub, who is playing Young Simba! 😭

The song is Green by old ABQ band Cactus Tractor. . .some of whose members are in .querque. Once a curmudgeon, a sourpuss, no ABBA for me!!, completely melted by watching this show. Which, admittedly, I only saw because of dear friends in the band. I'm so happy for it, always happy to get softer goodbye old crabdaddy.

Who are your favorite local musicians? We have so many.

Apache Plume is the name of this native pink floof we have been seeing blooming everywhere. 🩷 💚

Today, a meadow is growing in the rose garden at Botanical Gardens.

While we walked, my kiddo and I mused about life, new life in the spring and dorman plants blossoming again. They said: "People call these butterflies, but they aren't just flying. They are our guides, our butterguides."

If you are new to this page, hello! My name is Tabatha. I am an artist in Albuquerque, NM, and I created this page to share work, events, resources for and from local businesses, artists, and marginalized communities through my stories, and photos I take of our dear city on my feed. If you have something you'd like me to pass along, just DM it to me.

This page is my project of love for Albuquerque; while I will collaborate in sponsorships, all information from locals I pass along on my stories is unpaid. There are about a million of us living around these mountains, it's quite an honor, seeing people's efforts devoted to this land and one another.

We made these flowers for our solstice wreath at the just before dia de los mu***os. As we near the end of the winter, I can't help but think of how this wreath will soon be taken apart and be rebuilt with gifts brought by March. What will they be? Happy Valentine's Day. If you are a small business or run any community projects, workshops, and would like me to share on the story, just DM me with what you've got going on. This page isn't monetized in any way, just run by a person (me! Tabatha! ._.hansen) who loves our city and the people giving love to it. ❤️
