A group of federal lawmakers introduced a bill that aims to expand scratch cooking in schools. Congresswoman Johana Hayes, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, Congressman Julia Borwnley and Senator Adam Schiff have introduced the bipartisan Scratch Cooked Meals for Students Act which would establish a grant program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help schools expand the number of scratch-cooked meals they serve.

Bipartisan Scratch Cooked Meals for Students Act would create USDA grants to help school nutrition programs incorporate more scratch cooking.

This is an important conversation.

For many small and local farmers, sustainability will require thinking beyond the traditional farmers market model and viewing agriculture through a broader agribusiness lens — workforce development, value-added products, logistics, technology, education, hospitality, and regional supply chains.

Farmers markets still matter deeply for community connection, visibility, and food access. But if we want to create lasting, high-demand careers in agriculture — especially for younger generations — we also have to think about ownership, scaling, partnerships, and long-term economic strategy.

Agriculture is evolving, and our approach to agribusiness education and opportunity has to evolve with it.

Q). How can in successfully create, and sustain, within Urban & Rural industries, specialty sectors, and markets?

A). Farmers will, first, need to address their own regarding Workforce Development infrastructures. This will require them to the old business model. The topic of Agriculture was short and sweet at today's Zoning Update meetings - the afternoon Steering Committee and the evening Community Charette. It was encouraging, though, to see that the #1 industry was not overlooked in the discussion of residential, missing middle, commercial, ADUs, industrials, etc...

Check it out, though. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

We need farmers at the table.

Join us for a virtual Senate Farm Bill Orientation to get the latest updates and prepare to meet directly with congressional offices to advocate for a better Farm Bill.

The next phase of the Farm Bill is taking shape in the Senate—and young and beginning farmers must be part of the conversation.

We’re inviting you to join a virtual Senate Farm Bill Orientation where we’ll break down where the process currently stands, share the key policy priorities we’re pushing for, and prepare you to meet directly with congressional offices to advocate for a stronger, more equitable Farm Bill.
