It’s beef time!!! We raise grass fed AND grass finished beef, registered Black Angus.
** What does grass fed mean? The cattle have been in a pasture/field eating grass, maybe an hour, maybe a year.
** What does pastured mean? The cattle have been in a pasture/field, eating who knows what, at some point in its life.
** Secret: all cattle are grass fed and pastured in a field initially, most are taken to a feed lot and amped up with growth hormones and food byproducts to fatten them for 60-90 days before slaughter. They typically gain 200-300 lbs of mostly fat. Unhealthy fats.
** Secret: Feed troughs are in all fields and pastures. It matters what is put in them. We only use alfalfa in our feed troughs. Others use corn, grains and whatever food byproduct is the closest and the cheapest.
** What is 100% grass fed and grass finished? It means in a field, low stress on our ranch with lots of space, fresh water, trees to shelter in, and wide open pastures to graze in, fed only grass, hay and afalfa.
** Grass fed & grass finished beef is far more nutritious and has health omega fats in the beef. Want to see the difference? Set it next to standard mass produced cheap beef. Cook them next to each other, in separate pans. The mass produced others will shrink & release chemicals. Ours doesn’t really shrink and SMELLS AMAZING! Plus, our beef is a dark, deep and rich red, the color of a luscious Cabernet. Not much fat, the animal is naturally lean. Much better nutrient profile and much more delicious!!
** Why is space and low stress important? All animals experience some stress. More stress means more hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which puts weight on and causes the meat to taste gamey. It needs lots of spices and additives to disguise the ick. Less stress is better, of course.
** Why buy in the fall? Because the animal has been enjoying fresh green grass all spring and summer and the meat tastes better.
