A Rainy Week at Vibrance Farmstead

Mother Nature has certainly been keeping us on our toes!

After several rounds of heavy rain across Matagorda County, parts of the farm are holding quite a bit of water. While the rain is always appreciated, too much at one time can create challenges for both crops and field conditions. As any farmer knows, farming requires patience, flexibility, and a little faith in the weather forecast.

Despite the standing water, we're continuing to monitor the fields and assess conditions as they dry out. The recent rainfall will help replenish soil moisture and support future growth, but for now, we're waiting for the fields to become accessible again.

This is just another reminder that every Bloom Bag begins with the hard work of growing food and working alongside whatever Mother Nature sends our way.

Thank you for supporting Vibrance Farmstead and following along on our journey to provide fresh, locally grown produce to our community.

Today’s Food Is Medicine class was filled with learning, hands-on gardening, and plenty of fun!

Participants had the opportunity to learn from Jason Coleman, a farmer at Vibrance Farmstead, and Meghan Mills, Vibrance Health's Dietitian, as they shared information on using herbs and seasonings to add flavor to meals while supporting healthy eating habits.

Jason provided everything each participant needed to create their own herb garden. Attendees could choose from an herb garden, an Italian seasoning garden, or a tea blend garden to take home. Each participant left with planting instructions, tips on growing and maintaining their herbs, ideas for using them in everyday cooking, and their weekly Bloom Bag.

A special thank you to everyone who joined us as we continue connecting healthy food, nutrition education, and hands-on learning in our community.

Bloom Box Share – May 27, 2026

This week's Bloom Box was packed with fresh produce grown through Vibrance Farmstead, including patty pan squash, strawberries, onions, lettuce, sweet potatoes, peppers, basil, tomatoes, and bok choy.

Along with their fresh produce, participants received several resources to help make the most of their harvest:

Fresh from the farm recipes featuring ingredients found in this week's Bloom Box

A produce care guide with tips on storing fruits and vegetables to keep them fresh longer

A beginner's guide to growing an herb garden at home

Nutrition-focused information to encourage healthy cooking and meal preparation using fresh, locally grown ingredients

Our goal is not only to provide fresh produce, but also to share knowledge and resources that help families confidently prepare healthy meals at home.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Vibrance Farmstead and the Bloom Box program as we work together to improve access to fresh food and nutrition education throughout our community.

The fields are soaking up some much needed rain, and we’re grateful for every drop.
Meanwhile, inside the greenhouse, everything stays dry, clean, and growing strong thanks to a good roof overhead. No mud, just plants doing their thing.

🌿 Farmstead Check‑In 🌿
Today’s walk through the greenhouse was all about the flowers, and wow, are they putting on a show. Bursting with color in every direction, you can spot bright oranges, sunny yellows, and deep reds everywhere you look. The celosia and dahlias are absolutely showing off, each more beautiful than the other.
We even had a couple of special visitors stop by. A little green lizard has been hanging around the greenhouse, clearly enjoying the warm space, and we caught a butterfly resting on one of the bright yellow dahlias, as if it owned the place.
Moments like this are a good reminder that while we’re growing fresh produce, we’re also growing something just as special, beautiful flowers that bring life, color, and a little magic to the farmstead every day

Farm update from Vibrance Farmstead:

Mother Nature has decided to play nice, so far, we’ve had 4 inches of rain this April. The fields are thriving… and the weeds are thriving a little too confidently. Don’t worry, their days are numbered, and the eviction notices have been signed.

The greenhouse is officially in show off mode; hydroponics are blooming, onions are stretching, tomatoes are blushing, peppers are plotting, and the herbs are being their aromatic little selves.
Loving the progress out here!
