Three of our New West Greens seniors (James, Jay & Iin) traveled with Dr. Hanson and Mrs. Hall to New York City over Spring Break. We were able to tour a school greenhouse in Manhattan that participates in NY Sun Works extensive program of installing hydroponics systems in classrooms across the city. We also took in many NYC landmarks and experiences while we were there.

James and New West Greens took part in STEAM night at Meadowlark Elementary. We built these vertical systems to use for conducting experiments and to grow basil at our school. The kids loved learning how our hydroponics systems work and were mesmerized by the pink lights. 🩷💚🩷

🌱 Mini-Grant Spotlight: New West High School

With help from a Rooted in Wyoming Mini-Grant, students at New West High School are gaining hands on experience growing fresh produce while learning valuable real world skills.

What started as a plant science project has grown into an interdisciplinary program where students explore environmental science, engineering, and entrepreneurship.

Since receiving the grant, students have grown over 1,045 pounds of produce! 🍅🥬

The produce is:
• Sold to local restaurants
• Sold directly to community members
• Provided at no cost to the Johnson County School District food service program
• Donated to the Bread of Life Food Pantry

Through this project, students aren’t just learning about agriculture, they’re helping feed their community and support local food systems.
