The Pawnee people, originally from the lands that are now Nebraska and Kansas, live a unique lifestyle that combines subsistence farming with seasonal bison hunting. They build sturdy earth lodges along riverbanks and often move to the plains for hunting.
The Pawnee worldview is rich and complex, with a deep reverence for the stars. They believe in a supreme deity, Tirawa, the creator of the universe, who brings life and light to all beings.
However, the Pawnee have faced many harsh challenges, including diseases and attacks from neighboring tribes. To protect themselves, they allied with the United States military, which led to conflicts with other tribes on the plains.

The Warrior and the Eagle

On the edge of the world,
where the earth meets the sky,
he sits alone,
gazing into the vastness,
the eagle soaring above,
its wings cutting through the golden light.

His heart beats with the rhythm of the land,
strong, steady, and true,
as the eagle circles higher,
its call echoing through the mountains.
The warrior knows,
it is the voice of his ancestors,
guiding him, reminding him of his strength.

In the silence of the wind,
he feels the spirit of the eagle,
its freedom, its courage,
a reflection of his own.
With each flap of its wings,
he finds his purpose,
his spirit rising with the eagle's flight.

The warrior stands,
his feet rooted in the sacred soil,
his eyes fixed on the eagle's flight,
knowing that he is not alone.
The eagle, the land, and the sky
are his brothers,
his guides, his ancestors.
Together, they are one.

In the early 20th century, many Native Americans participated in Wild West shows and touring exhibitions in the United States. They used trains to travel and reenact battles and hunts, providing income in a context where traditional ways of life were restricted. Although staged, these performances still reflected their cultural identity in a rapidly changing world.

History shapes the way people understand the world, yet many important stories have been left out of classrooms for generations. Native American history holds deep knowledge about resilience, leadership, culture, and ways of life that existed long before modern systems were created.

For Indigenous communities, history is not just about the past — it is living knowledge carried through language, traditions, and everyday life. Teaching these stories more deeply is about more than education; it is about respect, truth, and giving future generations a fuller understanding of the world around them.

Many believe students deserve to learn history from multiple perspectives, including voices that have often been overlooked. Expanding education in this way can help build awareness, understanding, and stronger connections between cultures.

👇 Question for you:
Should schools teach Native American history more deeply?
Comment YES or NO.
