🇺🇸Who's ready to get crackin' for the Fourth of July?? 🇺🇸 Our girls are egg-static about all the support, so we're giving back big time! Guess how many eggs are in my basket today, and the closest guess wins 4 dozen free eggs!! Collect 'em all at once or over time - we won't judge. Porch pick up on Swamp Rd, baby! Farming isn't for the faint of heart ; yesterday we lost one of our oldest birds. The average lifespan for a chicken is between 5to 7 years. We estimate she is was 7 or 8. She lived a good life and gave us many years of happy hen love and healthy breakfast. She will be returned to the earth and remembered fondly.
Today at the barn where the beef cattle is Dad noticed 3 little kittens whose mom hasn't been seen in days. We think she may have been killed somehow. Unfortunately 2 kittens have passed but these 3 remaining were starving and in desperate shape ; you may wonder why cats are important to a chicken farmer? The simple answer is pest control. Mice and rats are an inevitable part of chickens. With the very nature of feeding chickens and storing their grains comes unwanted guests , and cats roaming the farm are the best line of defense.
Being a steward of the land means doing what we can to help the weak and weary. And although our plates are over filled we cant stand by and do nothing It isn't always successful and it may not be this time either. But tonight we warmed fed and cleaned 3 small kittens in hopes that they will maKe a turn around and join the egg plant security team in the coming months.

We are calling them garfeild; Odie and marmalade.

Help me wish a very Happy Birthday to our very own chicken Tender Evelynn!! Today marks 11 years since the world got a whole lot brighter ; My appreciation for all things sparkly and pink went into overdrive and this little blonde bombshell joined our nutty family !

Woohoo, what a week! We sold our first batch of chicks and round three is hatching as we speak - Chick count is at 4 as of today !
I treated myself to some fancy new headphones with my first profit shares.
Tomorrow it's back to business, buying more stuff for the Egg -PLANT . These ladies can sure eat !!!
Thanks to everyone who made the last two weeks a such a success
We've got four dozen eggs ready for pickup and five chicks left looking for their forever homes.
