World Bee Day is a great time to remember that bees do much more than make honey.

They help flowers, fruits, and vegetables grow by moving pollen from plant to plant. Bees also help keep many kinds of plants and animals alive, which is good for our planet.

You can help bees by planting flowers, not using harmful bug sprays, and making your yard a safe place for bees to visit.

Today’s hive check with our newest colony was easy peasy. These gals are friendly and hard working. The bottom deep box is almost drawn out with wax and the queen has been busy laying! Worker bees have been building comb above the frames near the feeder. I scraped the comb and did my best to add it to an existing frames below. I added some drawn wax frames from the freezer and fed some more sugar water. I spotted a few hive beetles so installed a few traps,sprinkled some cinnamon around the top cover and put down some dichotomous earth around the base of the hives. Opened the other hive, busy bees 🐝. Hoping for at least one good harvest from our older hives this summer. Can’t wait to see how they are doing next weekend.

Picked up our nuc from miller hill apiary Miller Hill Apiary, LLC and Madeline was a super helper and her first bee keeping experience. Found the queen with no problem and the rest of the gals were friendly and working hard when we checked in later: I know dad was smiling down today! If you’re looking we’ll cares for nucs go to our friends Janelle and Andy Miller!!

Looking forward to another season. Hoping for three healthy hives and two to harvest from this year. This is a year of renew and rebuilding.
